Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace League Cup match thread

We were well organised, competitive and did pretty well tactically. We lacked a bit of creativity. He’s probably our most gifted player but Eze was poor again tonight. No comparison between him and Oedegard. When he’s not playing well with the ball he’s a luxury given he’s not great defensively. If he wasn’t capable of a moment of genius I suspect he might be dropped at the weekend.
Agree Eze hasn't shone yet this season, but wait until the sun comes out again.
Anyway, not sure who I can think of to play instead of him at the moment.

Good performance in first half and deserved the lead. They brought on their better players and changed tactics passing through and around our middle two which got them the first 2 goals. Shame we didn’t put a midfield player on earlier to strengthen the midfield. As it was there second goal was offside - Grrr! We also didn’t play as well second half defensively which may have been more to do with the midfield being open? Just perhaps without the blind assistant referee we may have taken them to penalties or even won it but onwards to Sunday now 🙂

When we are on the 'Front foot' and controlling a game, Eze performs with aplomb.
When we have our 'Backs against the wall' and are being dominated he tends to disappoint.

Saturday

Why would i care about winning lottery when i have already earnt more wealth in my life time then the jackpot pays out.

So they subbed on world class players we play in the same league.

Nothing to do with rub of the green otherwise again why bother turning up against teams like this if that was the case.

We just got a draw against the champions man city and same with chelsea must have been rub of the green for those games

Presumably from people who paid to get away from you.

IMO the worst thing we could have done is score in the first 5 mins. We went into a hodgeson shell and had no forward momentum.

Jesus is such a miserable sod. I hope they keep playing him to finish 4th. Congrats on all that money spent.

On to Saturday!

I have used the ignore function once for the Geordie tw*t who came on here but I may well use it again, I really don’t think I would be missing much.
I suspect there are a few who have me on 'Ignore' - Goodness me DG1937 will not see this post !

Apropos tonight's game, I was convinced we would get defeated but I chose not to make such a prediction in the 'Prediction' thread as I believed there would be those who would 'Roll eyes' at yet another negative prognostication from the resident doomsayer.

We were overrun 2nd half but there are a lot of positives to take - the sprited fightback, the build up play for the 2nd goal was superb, esp from Devenny, Kamada and Nketiah both played well and the substitutions worked as they did on Sunday, and our subs gave us more fluidity and creativity. We've been very compact recently to get results but you need to give Arsenal something to really think about to create chances and score. And we play as a team and we play - if Eze continues to give subdued performances on tonight's showing I'd replace him with Kamada and consider starting Devenny or bringing him on much earlier - at some point OG will start to use flair more than stodge, and it could happen before Wharton come back. Some of Arsenal's link play, angled through balls and attacking runs were scintillating but we made them sweat right till the end.

Not you I had in mind Willo. You are a paragon of positivity compared to some on this site.

Should have pushed on more in the first half. Mateta had Kiwior on toast and it was a shame that backheel to Sarr didn't get through
Eze has to get the ball higher up the pitch, He seems to dribble into trouble several times a game in his own half, albeit he often gets the foul. He's showing worrying signs of a latter-day Puncheon at five years younger
Kporha didn't seem to lack confidence but he lost his man a couple of times and spoilt one good run with a loss of control. Still, we were winning when he was hooked and he is still very young. Munoz was a big miss, as suspected

Just my personal opinion from watching the game at the away end of the Emirates…

Clyne or Richard’s has to start on Saturday in the RWB position. Our Academy player was out of his depth.

Nketiah should start instead of Eze. Two or three good touches does not warrant a starting position.

Hopefully the Selhurst support will add that extra dimension to the game. However, clear for everyone to see, when Arsenal bring their ‘A’ game to the table - they are an incredibly good team.

He got schooled a bit by Troussard, which is no shame, more experienced players than him have suffered that fate. Apart from one run I didn't see any attacking intent however the yellow card must have impacted his performance.

Overall he was not a disaster but I do think he needs a loan to the Championship to gain experience.
