I'm not sure it is. He has said before this season started\ that he prefers a smaller squad so that all the players can see they have a chance of minutes. His gripe was about how late we left our business with regard to replacing key players (Eze and had he gone, Guehi). He wants good pre-season time so as to get his squad up to speed with his systems and tactics.
Like he said today, players in the Academy (and the better ones out on loan, presumably) need to see there is a pathway to the first team. Uche and Esse got minutes in the U21s last night so they will be ready for the bench tomorrow evening.

Well it kinda is.
Uche didn't make the bench on Sat, and Riad will be back soon. How many senior players do we want to be leaving out of the match day squad?

I believe Canvot plays RB for France U21s - not sure about his ability as a RWB, though.
Cover for Munoz must be the first priority in Jan, I think.
We have Clyne? And Canvot by the sounds of it. No decent player is going to want to come and play back-up to the greatest RB in the league. They'll know how little game time they'll get. I'm hoping a kid steps up soon as an able deputy.

Guess its the same with Sosa and TM.
Essentially looking for a player who is happy to play the early rounds of the cups and get a few minutes in the league every now and then.

Yup. I envisage him going in Jan, alas. However, we do have possibilities in his position to do a shift: Lerma, Canvot. Even Clyne, at a pinch but we'll need better than that, of course.
Unless, of course, they're told that they'll be used regularly over the season, what with all the matches to come.
Yeah, I agree; an academy product would be best, eh.

I think we've got an obligation to buy which is subject to appearances. Not sure of the finer details but if he isn't fancied then we are more likely to send him back to Getafe at the end of his loan period. If we keep playing him then we pay £17M even if we don't want him.
