Eze to spurs?

Not so ridiculous whilst ever there's a release clause. After all as other posters have said a release clause makes it clear to everyone what needs to be done to get a player - namely trigger the release clause by bidding the full amount. The article seems to be suggesting that Arsenal won't trigger the current release clause. There's no point them bidding lower whilst the current figure is there.

The Athletic don't tend to run click bait stories without some serious checking with people close to the club(s) or player/agent.
if you read the whole article it states Arsenal haven't approached Palace, hence we have nothing to reduce as there has been no bid.

You can bid lower than the release clause at any time - clearly the selling club can refuse it. Solanke was sold last season at less than his release clause. This only happened as the 2 clubs were in dialogue.

If Arsenal want to submit a bid they can do so at any time.

It would appear discussions to date have only taken place with his agent.

Ed Aarons at The Guardian is reporting that Arsenal have held initial talks with Palace about buying Eze and Palace are asking for a large chunk of the fee to be paid up front. The article indicates that the release clause is in place until 16th August.
I know there is another discussion on this but this is why it is so hard for Clubs to plan their season well in advance. How can Palace plan in advance if they don't know whether Eze (and Guehi) are going to be available and therefore where their transfer funds should be directed.

Indicates is the word. If they knew they'd say. They are guessing.

It also says Arsenal are expecting Palace's to reduce their price below the release clause amount as the transfer window draws to a close

I think unlikely. Letting one of our key attackers go at the end of the window with no time to buy a replacement would put our PL place in jeopardy. And last straw for Glasner.

Hopefully the release clause does end tonight rather than 15th August and Palace can slap an extra £20 million on the price to shut this down.

Agree. Palace have shown over last few years they play hardball on fees for our players, it would a change of approach

Even this Romano fella has now changed his tune and said Eze's release clause expires now in 24 hrs.
I'm sticking with my belief that it expired at midnight on 31st July.

If it has expired, that for me is story over, Eze stays at Palace, with Muñoz, Mateta, Wharton, Lacroix and all we want to keep, Guehi is a different matter, he has to go for financial reasons even if we take a hit, 30m should get a decent CD, Eze agreed to the conditions of the contract.

At what value is not worth selling Guehi ? Given disruption to the team, having to pay some of the fee to Chelsea

That's a highly pertinent question.

How do you put a financial value on one season of consistent excellence from one of the League's best centre backs in Guehi?

I wouldn't want to be in Parish's shoes making that assessment.

He certainly won't want to let Guehi go for free.
On the other hand he won't want to be taken advantage of by Liverpool which it looks like they are trying to do.

On the assumption that we can't get Guehi to sign a new contract with a release clause, I'd be thinking in terms of how much it costs to fund a replacement in determining a selling price.

Indeed a fine balance as at some point probably a low fee isn’t worth it if we think he can help us to success again this season. As you glad not in SPs shoes !

i think if we can clear 30m, after all is taken out, i would take that, he isn't irreplaceable, and leaving for 0, is not an option i think Parish wouldn't like.

If neither Guehi nor Eze go before the Shield, then I reckon they will stay. It will be way too late by then to start messing with our squad.
We can see how things progress and maybe look at a last ditch sale in January if we have to.
Liverpool were only at £30m. (Less Chelsea chunk). So we would lose little more than we paid for Franca.
In the meantime if a good back three emerges at the right sort of money (c. £20m) in the next few weeks, we can snap him up.

I say as of now go with what we have and add a centre half, right back cover, creative midfielder and a striker if we can find an up and coming lad that isn't too expensive that we can nurture. That Jesse Derry lad sounds just right...D'oh!

Seriously though, if we now keep everyone and assure Glasner a few more are coming in I reckon that will appease him. Plus he wont have to worry too much about getting new players up to speed. We already have a settled established starting 11 ready to go.

Derry is no loss. Arrogant - doent pass the character test.

I'd like them both to stay for the Community Shield game. If they go it will be a good send-off - provided we win.
Most of our business has been done late in the last couple of summer windows. And Hughes and Edouard were both final week purchases a few years ago. Having, apparantly, decided not to upgrade on Mitchell, the only position where we would likely be looking for an immediate starter, if no-one leaves, is a partner for Wharton and, possibly, someone instead of Richards. So purchases are likely to get a bit of time bedding in before they are needed for the first XI
With any luck, Liverpool will be in a dogfight for titlein January and decide to pony up. If they buy someone else then Guehi may agree to go elsewhere. All speculation

Someone instead of Richards would be the last thing on my mind. Think
this guy has developed as well as possible under Ollie.

Wow, the season hasn't started & already the Mitchell & Richard's out are already starting. Ffs, they are FA Cup WINNERS. for christ sake. Give it a rest.

I agree, most improved player, wins everything in the air, as was shown in the cup final

Maddison injured one minute into the game with no apparent contact. Spurs might be interested again especially after MGW fell through
