Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

On the other hand - there is very little point in signing for signings sake.

We signed Esse back in January -

Say the first team is

Henderson, Muniz, Lacroix, Guehi, Richards, Mitchell, Wharton, Kamada, Eze, Sarr, Mateta

Add in backups

GK: Benitez

Defence: Riad, Sosa, Lerma, Clyne

Midfield: Esse, Hughes, Doucoure

Forward: Nketiah, Franca

Anything we add needs to improve the squad - the first 11 I'm not sure who you would add to replace that - if they all stay. It also comes down to who we could afford with no outgoings.

There's an argument to say that's worth keeping powder dry and funds available, as we may need to spend to replace Guehi next year - with no income coming in against it.

Not sure of veracity, but apparently the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung had an interview with Glasner where he said
"
“Even though all the players are still here, we haven’t made the most of the transfer window so far. I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year.

“As of now, I have 17 outfield players! I hope we don’t lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible.”

The self-inflicted wounds of the European debacle and failure to replace Freedman could be coming home to roost
Our spending, to date, equates to less than 0.2% of the total PL outlay

To quote Oliver Glasner :

"Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far. I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year.”

One can deduce that he is not content !

I agree, the european stuff is just an excuse for parish to hide behind, could get Hackney done for example geeza is playing in the championship. other teams have got stuff done.

He is the one we have to keep happy.

I’m starting to feel a horrible sense of doom descending over me - a kin to that felt when Venables strolled over to QPR with half our best players!

This does not paint a happy picture with Glasner suggesting the club has broken promises to him.

I understand that Palace are not in a position just to bring players in and that certain pieces of the jigsaw have to fit into place.

That being the case, don't make commitments or promises to the manager you can't keep or you'll end up with an unhappy manager.

Why are we not in a position to bring in players ? Can you explain?

While I certainly agree that it’s preferable to get your business done early and have the squad that you’re going into the season with in time for pre season, there are some factors to consider.

Speculation around Guehi and Eze hasnt materialised into anything yet. So Palace can’t sign some of the so called replacements until there’s traction on those moves. And those signings would potentially be the more expensive ones. And usually more complex.

I think any more signings to strengthen the squad will come but there could be some price corrections that come into play before they happen.

You and I are 'Birds on the same twig' on this matter.

It looks like Glasner can’t count. He had 20 outfield players with reg first team experience against Mainz. This article smells of BS to me. Unless we are selling we only have space for 2-3 more at best without risk of unsettled squad

Why are we not in a position to bring in players ? Can you explain?
There are a few aspects.
There's the uncertainty around Guehi and Eze.
If they remain we won't need replacements for them.
If we're looking to buy players of similar quality to them, I doubt we'd have the financial clout to make such purchases without selling and bringing in funds first.

Then there's the last minute deals, the waiting, the permutations when players become available as the window draws on.
This can be outside of Palace's control.

Hence in my view Palace should not make commitments to Glasner which the club can't meet.
I may be wrong, but I get the impression Glasner has given Palace targets in terms of either player names or positions and and wanted them for the preseason.
We have got a goalkeeper and a LWB, but clearly Glasner was looking for more.

There's still time, but Glasner has clearly spelt out his concerns over repeating the same mistakes as this time last season.
Fool me once, shame on you: fool me twice shame on me.
