Main Stand redevelopment thread

I suspect that with the alleged spiralling costs of this white elephant we will see the sales of key players to 'fund the essential works to preserve the future of the club's
You must suffer from a very severe form of myopia if you think that Selhurst can remain as it is.

The money will be borrowed for the stand.

I have never said that but I do worry that the ownership structure of the club is such that is remains fundamentally fragile and that this grand plan does have the danger of making said finances more precarious.

Oh and if true be told I am actually registered blind.......

I know. You had to look it up.

If it is like every other major development, it will be paid for with a loan. The loan will be repaid at a rate that the club can afford.
If we want to advance as a club or just keep pace with our rivals, we have no choice but to increase match day revenue. We also need to be attractive to potential signings.

This bothers me about this stand. It's not going to be a big enough capacity to balance the books at the price it's coming in at. I tried to work it out based on pretty high ticket prices and things like 40 years to pay off with extra revenue and interest come up. Longer even. Because it looks like 200 mil is now the price.
That doesn't seem worth it to me. It's always been Selhurst for me but we can't continue to pretend the club can't move. I think most of us travel to the ground these days anyway.
My guess is it's well over half of the fans that live nowhere near South London anymore. I'd still have us in South London but perhaps nearer Kent - like Hayes or the extremities of Bromley somewhere. Or near Gatwick would be handy enough.
I won't mention Crystal Palace - fed up with arguing about it. Let them keep it derelict or as a council estate if that's what they want.

I'd move to a new stadium in a heartbeat.

Moving to a different site would upset as many fans as it pleased, judging by feedback I have seen in previous years, but more importantly, it would take years to be realised.
I don't think that the new stand would stop us moving at some point, but we can't stand still until someone makes that happen.
If we continue to be successful, I suspect that we could outgrow the 34k and make a bigger stadium a necessity. I doubt we could go bigger than 40k at Selhurst. Let's remember that we used to get around 40k for big games back in the '70s when football was not as big.

There's a massive field in between Croydon and Mitcham, big enough for a new stadium. All the club needs to do is commit to building a block of flats for illegal asylum seekers and this government and mayor would sign it straight off.

I also feel that we really need more - just for even current demand. If it were 40k and could host events it would seem great for 200 million. But it's the 200 mil for 8? Thousand more that bothers me - and it's one jazzy new stand whilst the rest ... Well you know. If it's all tourists for 200 quid each it would be worth it perhaps. That's slightly worrying too.

I get you, but this stand will last for decades, unless we move home, so it really is a long term investment.
We can't do it on the cheap, but I do agree that a larger increase in capacity would have been preferable.
The reality, I presume, is that corporate hospitality will make more money than more capacity.
