Main Stand redevelopment thread

WELL THATS THE END OF ANY THOUGHTS OF 'HEADING HOME'.

Looks like Selhurst is now definitely our immediate future.
I did read recently read that it is too expensive to build up and over the existing stand with the new one, like they did at Anfield. So therefore, the only option would seem to be tear the old stand down and then build a new one. Just like Fulham did. Took them FOUR years.
A lot has happened in recent weeks and based on the fact we are now in Europe, surely any new stand should go on hold for the time being. Last thing we need is having three sides to the stadium.
Against Wolves, we showed what a great atmosphere we have got at Selhurst. Easily good enough to stir up Europe.
So, save what will end up being £250 MILLION !!! on a stand for three to four years time and funnel all our cash into the team and a stadium spruce up. All ready to tango for the start of next season.
If thats true (not saying it isn't) it is a very new developement. As recently as about a month ago Parish was still saying the Main Stand will remain open for the entire redevelopement bar a few weeks of work. The club as far as I am aware are still building over the top of the old stand.
All designs, costing and plans are centred around doing this. You're saying at this late stage where everything is almost agreed they've just 'decided its too expensive'?

This bothers me about this stand. It's not going to be a big enough capacity to balance the books at the price it's coming in at. I tried to work it out based on pretty high ticket prices and things like 40 years to pay off with extra revenue and interest come up. Longer even. Because it looks like 200 mil is now the price.
That doesn't seem worth it to me. It's always been Selhurst for me but we can't continue to pretend the club can't move. I think most of us travel to the ground these days anyway.
My guess is it's well over half of the fans that live nowhere near South London anymore. I'd still have us in South London but perhaps nearer Kent - like Hayes or the extremities of Bromley somewhere. Or near Gatwick would be handy enough.
I won't mention Crystal Palace - fed up with arguing about it. Let them keep it derelict or as a council estate if that's what they want.
It's stage I

Stage II will be the Arthur and filling in the corners.

Should end up with 40k +

All done at a glacial but sustainable way.

The Palace way

We would. There is now a waiting list for season tickets of nearly 16,000 people. Plus 11,000 Members and Golden Eagle members.

There will be some double counting there as many members will be on the season ticket waiting list etc and some season ticket holders are also Golden Eagle members etc, however, i do get your point.

However, i do feel an increase to c34k is a logical first step assuming costs are not overly high (which they appear to be) and the money to pay for it can be loaned/financed at reasonable rates.

The maths, Planning and accountancy witchcraft going into the stadium development must be all over the place. Trying to budget for an average Prem League club income (with occasional dalliances with the relegation zone) and attendances. Winning the FA cup has thrown it all up in the air. Waiting lists for ST's ? increased publicity and revenue.
And what happens if we bomb down a league,...or two ?

Coventry, Millwall, Norwich, Sunderland, Brighton all have much newer stadiums. Some with Council help, and it nearly bankrupted them.
Nightmare 🙂
Just seen Cardiff got relegated from the Championship this season. Another new stadium. Mind you , Ninian Park was still better than Selhurst. 🙁

Actually, I think it was a bit of clickbait where I read it as on the cpfc website there are clear plans to still go up and over.

It seems if work was going to start it would have started already. Costs are going to go up and up every year so perhaps the delay is due to ownership battle at the top.
Once that is settled we can move forward. Happy to see Parish stay even if that means the stadium refurb is delayed. I do not want full ownership from people that have no affinity for the club. That said, I’d love the club to modernise the old ground, main stand looks so tired

Not sure where these figures are from but I find it hard to believe we have a 16,000 waiting list for ST's. My guess is it's more around 2,000 - 3,000. I apologise if you have a reliable source.

There were many games last season - including the last game against Wolves - where we didn't sell out. I will admit this is partly down to the restricted view seats. The club were pushing ticket sales on social media the day of the match. Based on last season, we'd sell the increased 34,000 capacity for the games against the big clubs, but we'd be around 27,000 - 28,000 for your Bournemouth's, Sunderland's etc.

This may now change that we are in Europe as people will be more desperate to get tickets and will want to accumulate loyalty points.

Anyway, I hope the development now presses on a bit quicker. there is a genuine feel that we've moved to the next level and that naturally will attract bigger crowds and revenue whish is a big positive.

Hopefullly we'll see something start soon, even Shipperley in his van outside would do (although maybe not given his court problems a few years back...) 🤐

But it would be good to see something happening, we do need that stand rebuilt as it's a visual sign of us moving onwards and upwards off the pitch as well as on it (and it's made of wood and full of asbestos).

I can't see us moving to a new stadium anytime soon, so best we can do is the new main stand, fill in the corners, stop the Holmesdale from sinking/flooding, sort out the stantions and roof on the Arthur and then somehow dislodge Sainsburys and those flats/houses and rebuild the Whitehorse to match the new stand. Then rebuild the Holmesdale to match as well, but leave the Arthur exactly as it is as a testament to the old school match day experience. You've not been to a football game if you've not waited half an hour for an over priced pint in an overcrowded concourse, to then wade through piss in the bogs and at least once drop your programme in the "trough" in the gents. It's what the tourists will want and dare I say it expect for £200 a seat.
