I would, at the moment it is a total shambles, if it carries on he will be gone in 5/6 games, lets hope he learns and adapts, i cant see that happening, this is the worst i have seen us in the last 13 premier league seasons, but we will see and hope he is more adaptable than our previous incumbent, and not such as a two faced liar.

Playing higher up the pitch just means your own really slow defenders are going to get turned every time with a ball in behind. It's one reason why Liverpool can't carry it off anymore, Van Dyck has lost any recovery pace he might have had. And Liverpool were the exponents of the high press; it's ok I suppose if you have the players to do it, if not try something else.

Yep. Can't imagine it working with our defenders. Or our forwards.

That's the question in my mind: Will Sage get the team to press high and make it work, or f*** it off and get them defending deep? He has to do one or the other, or else he'll be back in France by Xmas.

Also, can he even coach the latter method? A lot of coaches with youth academy backgrounds are very much of the modern school, press and possess. All very Pep. Not very Pulis. Would Sage even know how to organise a deep block/counter attack team? Has he ever done it before? Dunno.

A final factor is this: If a coach can get a lesser top flight club to mid table by playing either high-tempo pressing football, or heavy-possession based football, they are far more likely to appear on the radar of the big boys. There is a strong degree of self-interest there. Rogers did it at Swansea and got the Liverpool job. Pochettino did it at Saints and got the Spurs job. Recently, matey did it at Bournemouth and got the Liverpool job. Martinez even took Wigan down doing it (with the FA Cup, granted) and got the Everton job.

Meanwhile, Glasner wins three trophies playing pragmatically at Palace and no big club wants him. Nobody touches Dyche even after he gets Burnley into the Europe league, through league placing in the Premier League(!!!). I know he got the Everton job in the end, but only as a fire-fighter when they were f***ed.

What CV does Sage want for himself? I'm sure it's part of what is swirling around inside his head.

We have a new manager with a new style of play, a whole bunch of new players including a totally changed defence, 3 strikers either injured or sulking, and we’re exactly where we finished last season. I’m not sure why anyone expected more at this stage. Indeed, if Disasi Han been a dick or Khalaili hadn’t missed a sitter we’d be 10th. Either way I wouldn’t get carried away with 10th and I’m not bed wetting over 16th.
I am p*ssed off that Sarr isn’t doing what we pay him for and disappointed that Wharton looks like a Championship midfielder currently but Sage deserves our support for now and indeed for the next 3 months while he and the rest of the newbies find their feet in the PL.

Mateta,is probably claiming stress and mental health issues which will preclude him from training and playing for us until the next window opens in January.

The season is in its infancy, they have only played 4 PL games, but they have yet to score in these games.

When i saw the fixtures and the big international gap after 5 league games i thought if we can get 5 or 6 points from those games i'd be reasonably happy.
Obviously i was pretty sure at least one of those would come against Ipswich, so it appears we might not hit that target. However, in Sage's defence

2. Glasner was always going to bid for 2 or 3 of our players, which would destabilise things
3. Sage is new to the English game so needs time to adapt (same with Glasner)
4. Losing Lacroix, who was perfect for our formation, was a difficult gap to fill
5. After the excessive spending in Jan there would be limited funds in the transfer window

On top of that we've had the absence of both Mateta and Sarr who are so critical to the team and our goal threat - look how Glasner struggled in January without them.

Now the defence is a massive concern - Ipswich scored with 3 uncontested headers! which is clearly something Sage needs to sort ASAP and having Pino and Kamada as No10 is a concern BUT the bloke needs time.

A lot of what he says makes sense and the comments re Guessand and McNeil were refreshing IMHO (both looked lost when they came on as sub).
Similarly Canvot has looked like an accident waiting to happen in every game this season. Dropping him is a brave decision and we and the manager need to see a positive response from the player.

I think we all need to get behind him, at least until Christmas

Two other guys do all the shouting and I fear it is too many cooks!
He needs to be in control and not them.
It is early days but you do not get a grace period in this league.

IMHO a lot of managers do it for the effect. They know the camera is on them so perform. Arteta is a perfect example.

If you've managed or even played at any level you will know there is a limited amount the manager can do when the game is being played.

One ex manager recently commented that he always used to watch the first half from the stands but stopped it as when results weren't going well he always got stick for it. So after a while he stopped it, purely to avoid the criticism.
