Perhaps but he'll be guaranteed a lot of playing time at Palace as we may need to thoroughly overhaul our midfield with Kamada and Lerma out of contract and even Hughes perhaps not the force he was. We'd need stupid money to let Wharton go

And there is European football. Lots of games.

I am sure we'll be making enquiries but you're probably right, and we are only an outside chance for his signature
 
Hackney looks good, but clearly he's not on the Wharton level. Would be interesting too see what sort of fee Boro demand.

I think he'd be able to step up to be a decent prem player, not convinced he'd be a top player though.

Much i will suspect will come down to a couple of bits our side.....will Kamada resign, will Lerma resign, is Ozoh ready to play a squad role?

Lerma has to either transfer or mutually terminate. We had the option on his contract. He doesn't have an option not to take it except for a transfer fee or us agreeing to let him go. Kamada can do what he likes - however, I can safely say no one is going to pay him 100k a week. Frankly, we shouldn't either. He's fine but not exactly great.

Isn't Lerma out of contract this month?

I wouldnt be so sure. He's got an excellent decent CV, available on a free, and is about to plan in the World Cup in a very good Japanese team. If Glasner ends up at Milan you have to assume he'd be odds on to follow him.

Personally I'd do everything possible to resign him, even for another year. Wouldn't want to be going into a harder European comp hoping a kid from the Champs can step up.

We took up an option to extend Lerma's contract as far as I'm aware. The end of next season.

So on this basis say we offered £30m for Brennan Johnson and Spurs held out for £35m…you’d be happy to stop squabbling over the extra £5m ?

I agree.
He's a very good player offering a different skillset to our other players and I'm convinced he could make the step up to the higher level.

Each situation is slightly nuanced so i don't think this is what i said. The deal at £25m for one of the highly rated young Championship players is good value.

Liverpool could have signed a £100m player for £35m. They pushed for a £5m saving and look where they ended up.

If we have identified Hackney as a player we want, then we should pay the asking price before another club does.
