US Politics

The US already has military bases on Greenland. Apparently there used to be about 10,000 US personnel stationed there during the Cold War; it’s down to a couple of hundred now.
So, be prepared for a compromise with perhaps additional bases, higher number of US personnel based there and some form of long term lease arrangement.
It might also mean that the ‘need’ to bring Canada into the US governance is reduced if the US has semi control of territory nearer to Russia, which I assume is what it wants….or is it the mineral wealth beneath the ice?
Greenland has said many times, with Danish support, that it is happy to negotiate with the USA for enhanced facilities there and for inward investment to exploit the mineral resources.

Which presents a win, win for all. Except Russia! So what actually happens will tell us quite a lot about who is really pulling Trump’s strings. I think that Russia has something very significant in its possession that Trump knows would finish him.

I think it’s only another headline making diversion away from domestic issues. One that will be kept rumbling until the mid terms are done.

Agreed. You can make an argument for Venezuela, a country has because of it's problems is destabilizing it's neighbours (refugees) and exporting death to the US. It has also refused to compensate US oil companies, yes I don't feel sorry for them either but the fact is an international court ordered compensation and they refused.

None of this applies to Greenland and if Trump does take over that is one NATO country invading another.
Good post, but the issues you raise are more retrospective justification. Venezuela is and always was about control of oil and harming the Chinese. Trump has been brutally honest about that (unlike Dubya who will take the WMD cobblers to his grave).

And let us not be moved by the arguments currently being put forward by those apologists around Trump who claim that seizing Greenland is about North Atlantic security. There are issues there and the European NATO countries cannot secure that vast area without either a huge increase in resources from them or the USA filling the gap. Thus, there is an obvious solution. They have about 200 personnel in Greenland right now. Expand the base. No need to take the whole island and put it under US control. After all, they have a vast military presence in Turkey; but it is not a garrison force. The Turks still run the place.

Nope, the real reason for full control is obvious. Trump doesn't really understand or bother with geo-political security. He does understand trade and securing the supply of resources. Greenland is said to have vast untapped resources left unexploited due to that island's fragile ecosystem. He wants to take the place and strip it bare with impunity. And he will happily sacrifice the NATO alliance and world order to achieve that.

He has morphed from eccentric loveable rogue to his followers to dangerously unstable. I can see him being impeached and removed on a ground yet to be determined if he seeks to pursue military seizure of a NATO territory.

Because the new World Oder that is happening while Trump is in office, doesn't mean it would have been any better under a Biden/Harris administration. Russia and China being the big two that Europe would be up against. But now Europe has been cast on its own, with even the USA wanting a piece.
All Trump is doing is looking after his own national and personal interest. Europe's leaders are only looking after themselves, and are traitors to their countries.

You have nothing but prejudice to support such an assertion.

If anyone has acted corruptly then I trust they will be discovered and prosecuted, whoever they are.
The deals were signed off on and doubled down on. You need to read up on it yourself. There are a host of frauds which could have been caught - but weren't. Trump is staying quiet on this and letting it be dealt with. Woe betide the people involved if he doesn't think this is being resolved. That it took a young YouTuber to expose this is pathetic. It had been reported and investigated at least once before. Although I suspect multiple times. 2m in grants became 100s of millions. It's at a federal level too so some mega sentences await.

So that's why all those C17's and Black Hawks were seen at RAF Fairford

I live on the Atlantic coast and could watch the planes go over. I watched a fighter escorting a surveillance plane yesterday. I also hear the night flights. They use here as a visual reference point.

I've read reports the Russians were sending a nuclear sub to protect this particular tanker, which is why the US coastguard let it go (after it had reflagged as a Russian vessel).

Something tells me it's not just your average oil tanker 🤔

That must've been an awesome sight
It's common to be honest. I used to always see the Russian bombers. You'll get more fun jets in the UK. When there's a Russian bomber you get three jets tracking them. Two to hem it in and one to stand off locking onto target. The bombers must have to crawl home significantly chastened.
The funniest sight I saw was when I heard what I thought was something like a flight of WWII planes. It was the entire five Irish Turbo props escorting the one transport plane. That gave me a right laugh. Reminded me of Biggin Hill.

I have many fond memories of the air shows, back to the days of the old Vulcan Bomber

They have at least one sub going around Ireland. And one in the channel/ North Sea. Shadowing the "shadow" fleet. There's a photo where there's a spyship, the Russian sub being hassled by an anti-sub helicopter but also the Royal Navy sub surfaces to show them that they were there. The Russians didn't know.

Could have sworn I seen a periscope pop up in the Liffey this morning 🤔
