Your first Palace game live?

Went to games in the late 60s apparently but cant recall them.
First game i can remember was November / December 1971 when beat Sheffield United 5 1 and John Hughes scored a screamer.
Was also the 5 0 thrashing of Man Utd the following year.

1979 and I was 9, went with my dad who had a season ticket. Unfortunately saw us lose at home to Wolves 1-2 in the league cup. Can't remember anything about the game. I think I spent most of the match looking into the stands waiting for the fans to chant Eagles whilst unfurling their arms in unison.

We might have lost but at least you saw Kenny Sansom and Vince Hilaire in your first game.

Something that has bugged me all my life, I can’t recall my first game. My dad took me, would have been about 1962 or 63, remember a nippy little winger called Stewart Imlac. Other than that, don’t have a clue.

Also saw a rare goal from Mike Flanagan. Collectors' item, as they say.

I was there too, actually. I'd forgotten how late both of the Wolves goals were.

The only thing I remember about this game is that I bought one of those scarves that had the home colours on one side and the yellow and black away on the other side.
I was gutted we lost, but I still proudly wore my new scarf the next day at school 😁

Have read his biography written by his son, Gary, who is a sports journalist, called “ My Father and other Working Class Football Heroes”. It really is an excellent read and shows how the lives of footballers have changed.
Win the FA Cup with Forest 1958

Reading away (they were still at elm park) circa 93/94. Went with 1 Reading and 1 Palace fan, wasn't told before that we were in the home end!? Had to hide my Palace top under my hoodie on a red hot day... Palace won 2-nil (I think) couldn't celebrate the goals as I was surrounded by thousands of angry Reading fans.

Thanks for the info Spiderman, just ordered a copy online, £2.24 inc p&p, can’t go wrong at that price. I’ll be reading that on holiday next month.

Blackburn Rovers at home 1968 think it was in October. Could only go if my older brother walked me to the ground which he did for my weeks picket money. Then he abandoned me !!!. Only stand wasthe maind stand all the rest was terracing or mud on 3 sides. We won 1-0 was 10 years old and hooked ever since will be 70 next year

Book sounds interesting. Will order. Vaguely remember him - at least the name.
Me Sept 1964 home to Plymouth. Won 2-1. Bill Glazier still there for a short while before his record transfer of £35k for a keeper to Coventry. Think Millington took over for a short while before the great JJ.
