Wonder what this window has done to the market going forward. Around £40 mill has been the price for a number of very average players, the big money clubs have made it the norm. The problem is Palace will have to try and get there, because the cats out of the bag , even promising novices from the championship are being pushed to the £30mill mark. It's pretty easy. Most clubs pay +10m for a player they want. We never do. But this summer has been extra crazy. Mediocre players going for 30-50m+ Thats is just madness and not something we should do.
Last seen doing some shopping in Westfield Stratford, what can go wrongDid he sign officially yet? Or was just seen in the Sainsbury carpark?
Why is our transfer 'activity' always so tortuous? Chelsea, Liverpool, Citeh buy players at will. Of course, they have much more money than Palace, but even given that we prefer to shop in Aldi rather than Waitrose, so to speak, it's still painful.
1. We identify a target.
2. West Ham buys him.
3. We agree a fee with a club.
4. We agree terms with the player.
5. The medical takes four days and still fails to screen the likes of Ferguson and Franca.
6. In the last twenty four hours of the window we try to sign two players on loan...
No wonder Glasner, probably our best signings ever, is peed off. He won't put up with this nonsense for long.
Agreed. There's been a degree of panic buying for varying reasons and the prices have become unsustainable for the smaller clubs. It's pretty easy. Most clubs pay +10m for a player they want. Not panic buy. But maybe “it’s ok because Christmas Eve is on a Saturday this year so I can get to the shops” buyAgreed. There's been a degree of panic buying for varying reasons and the prices have become unsustainable for the smaller clubs.
We don't need to panic buy. If the worst came to the worst, we'll just have to blood some Academy players who may well surprise us on the positive side - it's happened before when needs must.
West Ham have spent a hellva lot of money on a hellva lot of average.
There are some advantages to keeping your wallet powder dry until the final stages. Difficult to jump in when your usual competition has already spunked its load.
I commented on this in another thread they are a club which spends over 100m this has been shown for many years and this season so far they have spend around 85m with around 65m of players going out.
Average players maybe I would say some of them are good players
Diouf 20m (we was after him but wouldn't pay the fee)
Walker Peters on Free
There big signing at 40m they didnt have a choice he was on loan last season with deal in place to buy at the end not option.
I cant comment on other signs i dont know anything about them really.
We probably only got him because he didn't need a medicalWhy is our transfer 'activity' always so tortuous? Chelsea, Liverpool, Citeh buy players at will. When I say average I'm meaning relative to the fees paid.
I think they have essentially lost a lot of money on these deals.
We won't have to wait long to find out.
What seems to be the difference with us is the delay in making official announcements. Others do so as soon as an agreement has been reached. We wait until the lawyers have concluded all the paperwork, the visa has been approved, the funds transferred and the photos and first interviews are ready. We often keep deals out of sight until all of that is done. Why is our transfer 'activity' always so tortuous? Chelsea, Liverpool, Citeh buy players at will. Others seek maximum exposure, whereas we avoid it. It’s frustrating for us but presumably is down to experience and the need to avoid deals being hijacked.
That’s my guess anyway!
