Would this be our most important win ever?

If we win on Saturday it changes everything. We have grown into a team under OG with some real quality players. If we win we would have a real chance of not only keeping our talent but will also attract more players wanting to come to us as we will have European football… look at Utd and spurs… who knows with olly as manager how well we could do.

Look how fergie went on when Utd won the 1990 final… a man can dream.

Win, and not only is it our first ever major piece of silverware, it could also be the difference to keeping hold of players that may have otherwise left searching european competition or at worst be able to attract players with the promise of europe. (albeit not the Champs league)

Keeping those players and building this squad should then propel us further next year and allow us to challenge for Europe proper.

Lose and those players will leave, and we'll finish 12th. again. ad infinitum.

So I would say this could be a massive turning point, and thus a massive game.

If we lose on Saturday we'll still be a healthy Premier League club next season. The Stockport game kept us in existence. There's no comparison really in terms of importance.

In terms of size? Obviously winning our first ever trophy, qualifying for Europe for the first time and ruining Brighton's summer would be monumental.

Agree.

I don't think of 'important' as being the right word or question (sorry pssguy!).

'Glorious'? Quite probably, we've no comparable achievement to winning the FA Cup.

awww man, beat me to it

I see that we’ve changed our socks to allow City to play in their home kit?? Honestly don’t understand why! We should have held our ground, played in our full home kit and make City play in their away. It’s a cup final! Shouldn’t be any nice gestures

I did post this up elsewhere, but it could be a lucky omen 🙏🏽

A very important result, not by Palace, but for Palace...

14th May 1977 - Wrexham 0 Mansfield Town 1.

Towards the end of season 1976/77, old Division 3, Mansfield Town were champions, Brighton *spit* were promoted as second with Wrexham favourites to get the third promotion slot (no such thing as playoffs then).

Fourth place Palace had one game left, away at Wrexham, who were unbeaten at home at that stage. Also, Wrexham had a game in hand, also at home, and only needed one point from those last two games to get promoted.

Palace won at Wrexham 4-2, with a couple from Rachid Harkouk, a slightly unhinged character who was born in England but represented Algeria at international level. He was a bit nuts, but we loved him!

So, Wrexham's last game, home to Mansfield, still only needing that one point to get promoted, but, the heroes of Mansfield, especially their amazing goalkeeper, Rod Arnold, won the game with a last minute goal!

I was at the Wrexham match, what a game and I would say my most memorable match and season - Jeff Bourne was such a hero that season and I think was only on loan. Didn’t live up to expectations when we did sign him though

Hundreds of palace fans turning up at a reserve game at selhurst to celebrate!! Ever since then I’ve had a bit of an obsession about doing Mansfield away, but we haven’t played them since!!
