Victory on Saturday would deliver the first major trophy, European nights at Selhurst Park, a significant cash injection, and a permanent place in club folklore. Defeat means walking back down the Wembley steps empty-handed, missing Europe, and facing a long summer of holding onto prized assets and finding it harder to attract the best new talent. Just another 12th place finish

However, could it be the most pivotal result as well? Others which appeared important at the time and may still have been include:-

Palace 2 -0 Burnley 1979
The last game of the season where a defeat would have denied us promotion, and a draw would have seen us pipped to the title by Brighton. Venables and some of the outstanding young players might have left the club. Still our biggest crowd and arguably greatest achievement

Palace 4-3 Liverpool 1990
A great fight-back as massive underdogs against the soon-to-be league champions and avenging the 9-0 drubbing earlier in the season. First Cup Final ads the belief to go on and record our best ever finish (by some way) in the following league campaign

Sheffield Wednesday 2-2 Palace 2010
Docked 10 points for going into administration a loss would have sent the team down to League 1 and possible literal oblivion. The draw meant our opponents were the victims after they set up a nervy finish by equalizing late in regular time

Palace 1 - 0 Watford May 2013
By beating two teams that had finished above us in the table (including Brighton) we set in motion the team's longest ever spell in the top flight. Zaha was magic in the playoffs but was off to United so whether we would have been able to put up another tilt at promotion must be extremely debatable. We might be looking at a 12th successive finish of 10th to 15th in the Championship

Much as I so want Palace beat City and get first ever FA Cup, I suggest that the win V Watford that gave us 11 years of Premier League was maybe bigger. Just my thoughts ...
 
How about the 1989 play off final at Selhurst? Going into the Home leg 1-3 down, no-one gave us much, if any, chance of promotion to the old First Division. A magnificent effort saw us win 4-3 on aggregate against all expectations and started us on the yo-yo ride that eventually brought us to our recent years in the Prem.

Having said that - winning the Cup this year would really be our crowning glory and I would die a very happy old woman if it happens.......
 
This coming match in my opinion is our biggest ever, providing we win it. It will give us our first ever major trophy, a place in Europe as well as a charity shield final to start off next season. What we achieve after that who knows? But it will go down in our history as either the start of our successes or something us oldies and young supporters will remember for the rest of our lives (short and long) - Let’s make history and win this 🙂
 
All the above games were huge at the time. The games have to be viewed in chronological order, if we hadn’t won at Stockport we could have disappeared down the plug hole, who knows where the club could have finished up. The following big games maybe would not have taken place.
 
We will still be finishing mid table, for a while at least, if we lose on Saturday. It wont end the club. Some of those results could have. They are more important as pivotal moments for the club.

But winning the Cup? That brings international recognition and our first proper foray into Europe. It's the next level fans have been itching to reach.

That was such a day. Probably my best ever day at Selhurst. In fact, definitely my best ever day at Selhurst. Never wanted to go home.
 
This game feels so much different from the 2016 final.

It doesn't just feel like a day out anymore. It feels like we are going there to do business.

When Leicester won the the league that time it kept that team together for another year in the champions league before all the vulchures came calling. It could be the same for us. One more year with this squad of players.
 
As others have said, all the big wins have all been pivotal at their time. This could kickstart a new era for the club.

On the face of it, this game has less jeopardy than other games (e.g. no relegation, or failing to get promotion) vs first major trophy and European entrance.

So nothing really to lose. Still should be our best ever points finish and an FA cup final. Everyone would have taken that after the start we had.
 
As important as the other games were/are this one could be more important in terms of retaining some of our players, and OG too, and attracting others.
Forgive the sentimentality but when we got relegated to the 3rd Division my Granddad, who'd been to pretty much every home game since pre-Selhust days said - One day Palace will win the Cup and when they do you can put a little replica of it on my grave. He died in the 80's so never saw us in the final and of course was cremated but the thought is still with me.
 
For me, most important result was the Sheffield Wednesday game. Most important win so far, the play off final that got us promoted.

In terms of coming of age as an established PL club this would be the most important IMO

But we ain't won anything yet

I was at Burnley game ,I was 10 years old .
My parents had bought me a youth season ticket I seam to remember it being 40/60 quid.
That game was crazy, two or possibly three pitch invasions ( I didn't join in ).
It's still quite a vivid memory .

What ever happens on Saturday I'm sure the team will leave everything on the pitch .
I also reckon most footballing neutrals ( appart from weed ) will be rooting for us .
 
Winning the FA Cup would be the greatest day in the club's history. No question. Our first major trophy.
Would it be the most important? Well, that depends on if we were to progress as a result.

Right now, spending over a decade in the Premier League is our biggest achievement. If we were to build on a cup win by retaining our stars and adding to an already good team, then that could become the most significant moment so far.

One problem. We are playing Man City.
 
If we lose on Saturday we'll still be a healthy Premier League club next season. The Stockport game kept us in existence. There's no comparison really in terms of importance.

In terms of size? Obviously winning our first ever trophy, qualifying for Europe for the first time and ruining Brighton's summer would be monumental.
