Would this be our most important win ever?

Although we didn't win the game, I feel the away draw at Sheffield Wednesday in 2010 was the most 'important'. We wouldn't have had a club to support had we gone down...

Would this be the most glorious and best day? - absolutely. Winning our first major trophy and getting to Europe for the first time would be monumental and a possible catalyst for us to move onto bigger things. To win the FA Cup is a fairy tale for those of us who endured years of turgid football in the second tier.

If we lose on Saturday it will be a sad day, but we'll still have our beloved Palace in Premier League to support next season.

How about the 1989 play off final at Selhurst? Going into the Home leg 1-3 down, no-one gave us much, if any, chance of promotion to the old First Division. A magnificent effort saw us win 4-3 on aggregate against all expectations and started us on the yo-yo ride that eventually brought us to our recent years in the Prem.

Having said that - winning the Cup this year would really be our crowning glory and I would die a very happy old woman if it happens.......
McGoldrick 'flopping' down and winning a penalty🤣 . 1-3 down and underdogs to Blackburn. What a day, on the pitch afterwards in the sun. Happy days
❤️💙🦅 Up the Palace!

Break it down and any number of games in the past could have been described as important. Wrexham, Stockport, Sheffield Wednesday, and more, Play-off wins, etc...all important at the time, and would we be where we are now if any of them hadn't gone our way?

A genuinely brilliant day on which I was lucky enough to be behind the goal into which Madden slotted the penalty. I can still remember the replays and Brian Moore on tv later that night "... and Palace are in business now!".

I'd say it is on par with Sheffield Wednesday away, but on the opposite. The implications of losing that one presented a reality I could never want to come to fruition.

The implications of winning on Saturday could be a catalyst to an even greater era of Palace than we are currently seeing

It would be our best win, but not the most important win. If we lose, well just carry on to next season as usual, other games with relegation on the line were more important due to the implications of relegation being devastating to any club.
Wigan won the cup in 2013 and are now languishing near the bottom of League One, didn't do them any favours.

It's all about making indelible memories. who wouldn't want to be at Wemerlee to see Palace lift their first ever real trophy , winners of the oldest domestic football cup competition in the world ?

Or you could be me, watching Palace lose on TV, with Gary Lineker beaming into my living room with a massive smile, skin-tight trousers and thrusting his leather-clad groin in my face, telling me "Brave little Palace will have their day, maybe next century"

I remember reading at the time over 4000 were at Selhurst during the Wrexham/Mansfield game.
2 trains, coaches and a violent copper. 2 up , level and then winning and waiting for the final match of the division (Mansfield won the league and Shankly didn't get them over the line)

Blimey. I should watch it on ITV.

Victory on Saturday would deliver the first major trophy, European nights at Selhurst Park, a significant cash injection, and a permanent place in club folklore. Defeat means walking back down the Wembley steps empty-handed, missing Europe, and facing a long summer of holding onto prized assets and finding it harder to attract the best new talent. Just another 12th place finish

However, could it be the most pivotal result as well? Others which appeared important at the time and may still have been include:-

Palace 2 -0 Burnley 1979
The last game of the season where a defeat would have denied us promotion, and a draw would have seen us pipped to the title by Brighton. Venables and some of the outstanding young players might have left the club. Still our biggest crowd and arguably greatest achievement

Palace 4-3 Liverpool 1990
A great fight-back as massive underdogs against the soon-to-be league champions and avenging the 9-0 drubbing earlier in the season. First Cup Final ads the belief to go on and record our best ever finish (by some way) in the following league campaign

Sheffield Wednesday 2-2 Palace 2010
Docked 10 points for going into administration a loss would have sent the team down to League 1 and possible literal oblivion. The draw meant our opponents were the victims after they set up a nervy finish by equalizing late in regular time

Palace 1 - 0 Watford May 2013
By beating two teams that had finished above us in the table (including Brighton) we set in motion the team's longest ever spell in the top flight. Zaha was magic in the playoffs but was off to United so whether we would have been able to put up another tilt at promotion must be extremely debatable. We might be looking at a 12th successive finish of 10th to 15th in the Championship
It's a tough one and I read what someone wrote about Stockport but I thought Sheffield Wednesday was a game that if we were relegated we wouldn't be around for much longer.

Watford meant we were going to make a lot of money and possibly always be a PL regular, maybe as a yo-yo club but one that meant we never had to think of division 3 like the Millwall and Charltons.

Winning the cup though probably will be considered the best win, best game of our history.

I forgot, as well as getting into Europe if we win the cup, we’ll be playing the scousers in the community shield in August. Another trip to Wembley and a chance to really start racking up the trophies 😁
I recall winding up a Tottenham fan saying our playoff trophy was a more recent cup than theirs lol.
