Steady letting the Welsh in women yes welsh aaaahhh next you be saying part of uk nextIt's utter woke nonsense, teams that have done jack sh*t all season and finished only 14 points off relegation still get to play in Europe. They'll be letting the Welsh, or women in next.

Hold on...that's us.Onlyfans

Yeah, perhaps. The play offs were introduced in the lower leagues to prevent loads of dead rubber games at the end of the season and give more teams something to play for. Expanded European qualification does at least serve that purpose in the premier league.I think many supporters, and players, of clubs at our level would soon tire of that approach. Every season the only target would be to avoid relegation

You mean a team like Brighton who have “qualified” for the conference. Scraping the bottom again😂Apparently, if results had gone differently yesterday Bournemouth would have qualified for the champions league. By finishing sixth.
What the f*** they would actually have been champions of is unclear to me. It sums up European competition, though.
I hope we win on Wednesday if only to get the crack at the Europa League we were unfairly denied, but even if we do, the conference league is s***. Anyone who is any good at all is already in one of the other competitions because half of Europe qualifies now, so the very bottom of the lowest barrel has been scrapped to find the conference teams. It shows in most of the games.
European competition used to be the pinnacle, now it's often a step down for premier league teams.
Fairs cup that was 3rd tier also invitation only but lots of big clubs won it , it got taken over by eufa cup when they stopped the cup winners cupCan’t get on board with the names of the 2 lesser European cups. Heard people, including Palace fans calling it the ‘two Bob cup’ etc.
I’m going old school and will now be referring to it in its old name.
Can someone let me know if we are in the eufa cup final or cup winners cup final please.
Many thanks.

Yep, that's how I remember it.The old uefa cup was the second tier tournament and the old cup winners cup was generally regarded as the runt of the litter coming in third

Not in my group of friends. As the Cup Winners Cup was for clubs that had won something, whereas the Fairs Cup was for also rans, we saw the CWC as more valuable. The old uefa cup was the second tier tournament and the old cup winners cup was generally regarded as the runt of the litter coming in third

I think the uefa cup had the better quality teams in it though, although the FA Cup was big back then, domestic cups in other European countries weren’t that great. The uefa/fairs cup had second, third placed teams in it, which is basically like the champions league now.Not in my group of friends. Whilst what you say about the quality of teams was generally the case, our mentality as teenage fans in the 60s was that:I think the uefa cup had the better quality teams in it though, although the FA Cup was big back then, domestic cups in other European countries weren’t that great. You’re probably right, I do remember in 1991 when Man Utd were in the cup winners cup I was gutted it wasn’t us, especially as they went on to win it.Whilst what you say about the quality of teams was generally the case, our mentality as teenage fans in the 60s was that:

Yes but also also our 1st play off final was 2 legs it was the in thing like replaysYou’re probably right, I do remember in 1991 when Man Utd were in the cup winners cup I was gutted it wasn’t us, especially as they went on to win it.
I always thought it was strange, even back then that the uefa cup final was a two legged affair

Don’t mention that, I broke my leg badly just before it and couldn’t go, even more frustrating I lived near the ground and could hear the crowd 😩Yes but also also our 1st play off final was 2 legs it was the in thing like replays

Concur. We should go back to the old format but that will never happen. Under the current format though we are seeing more and more English teams selected because we are doing very well in the competitions. We have a finalised in each comp final this year which shows the quality of our league.Apparently, if results had gone differently yesterday Bournemouth would have qualified for the champions league. By finishing sixth.

In my memory of these things, I think perhaps perceptions had changed a tad by the very early 90s, in that unless a reigning domestic champion was able to retain their national title the following season, by the time the European Cup and UEFA Cup finals were played it had usually become apparent that someone else, other than the European Cup finalists, were in fact now the best team in the league that was providing those finalists.Whilst what you say about the quality of teams was generally the case, our mentality as teenage fans in the 60s was that:
