The idea that Charlie Kirk had extreme views is absurd.

Indeed, if Corny isn't lying about his age then he literally grew up in times where people were more socially conservative than Charlie Kirk.

Corny's views would have been considered the extreme ones, not Kirk.....Yet he spends so much time trying to paint other people as extreme it's quite laughable.

Kirk was the guy who would welcome those who disagreed with him to debate him.

Yeah, some extremist.......Extremists do the opposite.

That you don’t regard them as extrem is not a surprise. Clearly others do. Myself included. Evangelical Christian Nationalism is a really dangerous regression. You have only to read Andrew Torba to understand that.

It’s divisive and based on feelings of superiority.

Charlie Kirk had the mitigating qualities of being a nice guy, with an attractive, engaging personality and willingness to engage in debate. You come across adversaries like that. People you can like, but still fundamentally disagree with. I would have enjoyed debating with him. Just as I enjoyed debating with a very kind and personable Imam in Jerusalem. He was funny, respectful and welcoming. He was also completely indoctrinated, certain and wrong. He reminds me of Kirk.

It’s the beliefs that are contested. Not the individual holding them.

I agree we used to be more socially conservative in the past, though not to the same degree as Christian Nationalists. It’s refreshing that most in society have progressed to a better understanding of how we ought to behave. We are more accepting and less repressive than before. Most though doesn’t include all. The evidence for that being found every day in these pages and, regretfully, in the White House.

I am done with further comment on the Charlie Kirk murder. The reaction of the right to such an appalling tragedy and their attempts to blame the “left” rather than the political divisions in the USA disappoint me whist not being of any great surprise.

The rest of us, dismissed on here as “normies” will just have to rise above it and continue the fight against the pervasive rise of intolerance typified by Trump until common sense returns.

I have other, and much more important, things to do than try to reason with closed minds.

At least a new hero has emerged in Governor Cox. We need people like him as leaders.

It’s perfectly ok to hold such ideas but it’s not to advocate for their adoption if the majority opposes them. It’s no surprise when such extreme views produce equality extreme reactions. Such views are divisive, as you either love them, or hate them. I advocate that those who believe in them should be fully entitled to live their own lives by such standards, but should not be allowed to impose their beliefs on others.

Says the guy who criticises what he labels as populism. So anything his progressive groups don’t believe in.

No. He meant exactly what he said. That they will only take forward serious cases. Not that other cases aren’t valid. When you lack resources you must prioritise. The police do it all the time, which then causes angst because what they, you and I regard as serious often varies. Hence them seeking clarification.
