There is nothing but compassion for teenagers considering making such decisions and the fact that they may be later regretted is at the forefront of that compassion. It is an ever present.Good for you. What about a lack of compassion for teenagers who are making life changing decisions they may come to regret later in life. All that's being discussed here is making the minimum age 19 to make this decision. Why is that so bad? Anybody is free to live their life as whatever gender they prefer but surgery is another matter.
I fail to see how you can claim that all that’s being discussed is raising the minimum age to 19. There have been many other things said, but that’s the first time I think that suggestion has been made.
It’s currently 18 (here), the same age that someone can marry or vote, so is the age at which someone is regarded as competent to make big decisions for themselves. That’s not of course to suggest that all counselling and support just disappears at 18! It remains just as it does for everyone. Raise it to 19, or 21? I can see some sense in doing so, but have no specially strong view.
