US Politics

The Manhattan Institute found evidence that in America between 2017 and 2023 6,000 girls under 18 underwent gender affirming double mastectomies. At least 50 of them were 12 years old or younger.
So does that make it mutilation? You are able to decide that better than the health care professionals involved?

None of us have any idea of what each case involved. Some seem to object just on principle.

I prefer to allow the professionals to do their job, showing the care and compassion that they do to often very confused young people. Nothing is ever rushed and very thorough and careful counselling is given.

No chance, he's tried it 3 times & got given 'short shrift' every time.
I comment there as and when I have anything to say. Which is infrequent as the chat there is mostly either inconsequential, predictable or uncontroversial.

It’s different here. This section has become a cess pit of far right dogma, populated by a type I have opposed throughout my long life. As a Palace supporter for almost 70 years I don’t want a casual visitor to our site reading these views without seeing them challenged and, where appropriate, ridiculed. We are better than that.

If those "experts" are driven by ideology when it comes to very confused people as young as 12 then yes I do think it is mutilation.

A crime against humanity.

Everyone responsible for this needs to be in jail.
Of all the various aspects of lunacy that the Left champion, the worst is probably the castration and mutilation of children. There is literally no limit to the depths that the Left will sink to in the name of their deluded beliefs. Posterity will look back at it with incredulity and horror – child sacrifice in the 21st century, who could ever think it possible, who could ever think it is justified, how can those on here who support it look themselves in the mirror – shame on them.

100 percent.

The bell will toll.

That’s a very big, and extremely unlikely, “if”!

It’s the type of unsubstantiated assertion you read in the Mail.

Healthcare professionals are not driven by ideology. They are driven by care and compassion towards their patients. Doctors are also bound by the hypocratic oath.

Whilst deciding at what age society recognises that anyone is mature enough to take an informed decision is a political, not medical, matter I am quite sure that any medical professional will conduct their own investigations to ensure that whatever is done is in their patient's best interests.

You have to be 18 to get a tattoo. Why is that? Could it be that 12 is too young to make an informed decision about something that would affect a life to a minimal degree compared to this surgery and the potential mental health problems?

What on earth are you pontificating about?

Healthcare is blind to politics. Nobody on the left, or right, wants to castrate or mutilate children. The clue on the purpose of healthcare is in the name. It’s caring for the health of people, both physical and mental. That can present challenges and produce solutions that some find disagreeable. Some even object to blood transfusions!

No one, of whatever age, would ever be offered surgery for any kind of gender issue, unless a consortium of specialists agreed it was in their patient’s best interests. Such things are not done lightly.

The ignorance and prejudice that some, particularly those on the right, spout on this subject is sad to witness, whilst unsurprising given their track record. There appears to be no subject they don’t know more about than the most qualified expert. No wonder they approve of Trump!

Experts like those who prescribed Thalidomide.

It’s a political decision which sets the age at which informed decisions can be made, although I would imagine that senior healthcare professionals were consulted before making the determination. Mostly though it’s simply trying to ensure society’s expectations are met.

It also though provides some guidance and protection to those healthcare professionals who are trying to care for their patients and help them make difficult decisions. Patients who must often be very confused, which means those helping will be extremely cautious.

I know from experience just how lengthy, detailed and thorough this is. No one is ever encouraged to consider surgery. The opposite is true.

Surely though surgery is preferable to self mutilation?

How lengthy can it be for someone who's 12?

No it hasn’t, that is just total bs.

Far Right is being used in completely the wrong context by so many people these days, on social media, in the press and MSM.

Far Right’ in UK terms was always BNP, National Front, Combat 18, Neo Nazi / White Supremacy…

How is it that now, ANY right of centre view, opinion or supported policy suddenly means you are automatically categorised as Far Right ?!

It’s just lazy and wrong to label as Far Right someone who is simply a concerned parent /uk citizen who worries about illegal immigration, worries about the soaring crime rate, worries about the safety of our children or worries about the pressures on our Country’s infrastructure (Housing, Education, NHS, Welfare, Law & Order and Social Cohesion etc).

The point being that those experts thought it would do good. They were wrong then and they were wrong on this.
Interestingly enough I was diagnosed with Myeloma a few years ago and the first medication the docs prescribed for me was Thalidomide. It had no effect so various other, some extreme, treatments followed.

Fact is that blokes don't suffer the same side effects as pregnant women.

Anyone with a bit of common sense knows this. Most of us here have said this for years now.
