US Politics

Wouldn't that equate to hating capitalism? I understand hating unfettered capitalism but even though I'm a critic of the neoliberal version of capitalism that exists in Europe today - a system where the international markets effectively control nation states - it's not a hatred for capitalism itself....as what are we comparing it too?

The oft quoted Churchill comment on democracy also relates here.....we can pick holes in capitalism for sure and Marx did a good job of that, the issue comes when you compare it to other systems.....which typically seem to end in a pile of skulls and/or poverty much more readily....As Marx's later enthusiastic system creators proved.
Our version of capitalism, certainly.

Capitalism as an overarching concept - no, it's achievements are clear to see.

I'd agree that capitalism went haywire and remains so.....a state of affairs where the vast majority of young people can't afford to buy homes and are left with unpayable debt piles from previous generations and are told by the system to consume but own nothing is utterly elite driven and unacceptable....that should be whether we are coming at it from the right, left or whatever.

A trade deal with Trump is a huge error, typical of the UK.

It will be political and on his terms, we have no problems with our trade with them, free trade is actually not having a trade deal, commonly stuck years in international courts.

The UK should divorce the declining USA amicably, let's just be friends.

One that annoys me is buying US military equipment. We should make our own and loads of it.
Then make some cheaper versions for export and US defence companies can do one.

This guy is living in a fantasy world.

So is this idea that you can just do without 20 percent of your trade.....Considering how much you whined like hell over Brexit that just tells me your operating your politics purely on feelings Steely. It would be handing the next election to Reform without a fight.....So it wouldn't happen even if Starmer preferred it.

I agree, but we lost all that as a consequence of WW2 and becoming a client debtor state......America did financially very well in that war and took over.

Which we were raised to celebrate.

I hate wealth inequality, correct. It doesn't mean I hate rich people as individuals - I hate the system that allows them to exist. But them personally? It's not their fault the game is rigged.

Engage your brain and stop reeling off little soundbites.
So why not stop buying shares. You only do it to get richer yourself and your investments makes it possible for the rich you don’t like to get richer. You are part of the system you hate. You are actually playing the game you say is rigged.
Hardly a sound bite is it?

I must admit I have seen this thing many times, I don't know how much Saturn is guilty of it but you hear.....'Oh I hate the system, but I play it fully to be as personally successful as possible'.

Soros is essentially this but with Soros, when he hit the big time, he used the fortune he took from others to look to remake western society (along with his other fellow rich commies).....With disastrous results as far as I can see with the effects of their meddling and his 'Open Society'.

To my mind you can't play the game and not be part of it. The market isn't and has never been a sub zero game....for you to win, someone else loses.....and anyone who has looked seriously at the system knows that it's rigged from the inside. One of its primary purposes and designs is to take from the small retail investor and transfer to the insider.

If you're going to do it, you need to be aware of that and never invest what you can't afford to lose without it impacting your life.

What we must not, do at any cost, is lower our standards and adopt the American ones. Particularly on foodstuffs. We have continued to use those developed by the EU and they are much better. More detailed and stringent. They err of the side of safety and ignore commercial pressures applied by producers. Never mind chlorinated chicken. Think about the effect of the hormones used to raise stock and then about the number of grossly obese people in the USA and ask whether there is a link. It’s not the only cause. Over consumption is the primary reason but with obesity now a real problem here to we ought not take the risk.

Well I never!

And the Trump administration’s claims appear to be far-fetched.

Well I never!

Going to war with your judiciary and universities. Definitely not an authoritarian regime.

How stringent are their gas appliance standards?

That’s beyond my knowledge. You will need to do your own research. I have gas in my own house but the engineers are the ones who have to ensure standards are met.

I don’t have gas connected to my rental properties. I have told you that many times. Are you getting forgetful? Dementia is an awful disease.
