US Politics

It's all too close to call, if Trump wins lets see how the Left react, occupying and rioting in more cities in protest perhaps.

Best thing is a landslide result where voting irregularities will be irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

It's like the Admirals Cup, doesn't matter which boat passes the line first the result is decided by a race jury.

Which, for years, until taken to task, the food manufacturers added to our food without a word; just snuck it in to make our food 'tasty' without a care for the consequences. Anything for a profit, eh? keep those kids pestering their parents and the profits will keep rolling in.

It's only when they were taken to task by people highlighting and protesting that they changed. Now it's as if they are the food saints, telling us how healthy they are. If no one had protested, they would have carried on for years: tooth decay, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes.

Sorry to go off topic but I couldn't resist letting fly at someone who is a self-confessed ex member of the food processing industry.

I imagine it must be refreshing to be taken to task and it having nothing to do with politics, how left wing you are or simple ganging up and bullying.
Food additives have been used to ensure safety ever since we started to preserve food for later use, avoiding starvation and waste as we did so. The world could not survive without them. There is an enormous amount of misunderstanding about them, clearly evidenced in the above post.

Reducing the amount of junk food that’s marketed is a different matter. That is a genuine concern and one that I am fully onboard with. The food additive manufacturers aren’t responsible for junk foods. Their concern is safety and efficiency.

If you preserve food you need to protect it from losing nutrients, stop the growth of bacteria and fungi, avoid the leaching out of colour and the destruction of flavour.

Initially this was done by applying heavy amounts of salt. Which has left us with our obsession for a salty diet and our dangerous over consumption of something that’s responsible for much of our heart disease.

We have found better ways as the industry grew. If you can grow and eat your own food do so. Fresh from field or garden is best. If not buy frozen and cook your own. If not then choose good quality convenience food, but don’t worry that it might contain preservatives, herbs, spices, colours or flavours. They are all tested and safe. Do avoid junk food. Avoid too much fat, sugar and especially salt. They are the real concerns. Not additives.

The idea that the food industry changed as a result of pressure made me smile. It did, but not in a way which actually benefited the consumer. It resulted in “natural “ becoming the marketing term of choice. Which means nothing in terms of safety or efficiency but does in terms of cost. I could explain that technically but it would take too long.

You think he'll notice?

So I'm writing B**lix then?

Having written that, I'm expecting a good few "As ever"'s lol.

I take the point about preservatives but salt and sugar still applies, does it not?

For example, how long would Heinz have marketed their baked beans, with all that salt and sugar added, if they hadn't been challenged?

I'm certain that, without pressure, there would be no 'without sugar or salt' on sale.

Anyway, for another post, I think, unless we can shoehorn the question of preservatives into 'US Politics'. Certainly, Biden could've done with some, could he not? And Trump could do with an 'acidity regulator', no doubt.

Tuesday is D-day. Presidential election.

The Yanks can choose. It's between a dim Globalist-Puppet or a Lunatic.

Hilarious

I imagine it to be like Brighton vs Millwall. You want them both to lose.

Not long now! The biggest relief will be the end of non stop political advertisements and biased media rhetoric! The left should ask themselves why their vote plus the never trump vote still only equates to -48%.

If those who vote against Trump based on the person not the policies was removed this would be a landslide!

We could well end up with a Harris/Waltz “turn the page” government! Turn the page from what? The democrat elite have ruled this country since 2008 (Trump years apart).

Their chaos, their mess!! Good luck with the clean up!!

I would be amazed if Harris won....Nay gobsmacked.

If it happened the blame would rest squarely on the female vote as the breakdown between men and women on who votes left is quite striking, particularly in America.

However, I think there are enough women who aren't loons or Karens to ensure that Trump wins.

Trump winning is much the same as Starmer winning, the reality is that the Democrats, much like the Conservatives have run such poor internal and external policy that voting for the same people is just madness.

Much like Einstein said, doing the same things and expecting different results is a definition of madness.

I’m not sure many on the left truly believe Kamala is a good choice to be president but when the Biden lie could no longer be covered up it was their only choice!! The world might not like Trump but I’m not sure how the next 4 years globally will play out!

My guess is that the elite machine will start planning for a better candidate in 2028 day 1.

I'm pretty sure that when Trump wins he won't be that interested in most domestic policy himself. He'll leave that to his team, Kennedy, Vance, Vivek and co.

I think he will mostly focus on what obsesses him, which is going after those that went after him and foreign policy.

Things are going to be nuts in America, because the Democrats are going to have a very difficult time giving up power to Trump.....To him he's the devil and someone they will find very hard conceding defeat too.

I expect, riots, I expect them to burn baby burn.

The Left?!

There is no left. It's just right and further right.

To which the reply on here is probably going to be that Harris is a communist lol.

If the last few weeks are anything to go by I think we will be pleasantly surprised by the amount of people who actually like trump.

It's now a tiny minority and the ones who control the MSM that don't like him. These are the ones spreading hate and misinformation.

Just my opinion 😊 I do like the Look of JD Vance. Him and Vivek would be my choice for 2028.

I'll be wearing my MAGA hat all day tomorrow with excitement anyway!

Yet more mirth! haha.

Yup the 90% - loved Trump. Of course, Those Trump - haters are the only ones spreading misinformation. That's a cracker.

"Broadsword to Danny Boy - Brilliant. Keep 'em coming. Haha!"

Salt and sugar are not regarded as food additives but as ingredients. That they are overused is certainly true as is that consumer pressures have helped reduce them. Using additives like artificial sweeteners has helped achieve that. Which is very sensible.

If I were you I would avoid wearing it in public unless you don’t mind being laughed at.

You had better be prepared to have a painful mouth. Whilst nothing is ever certain I cannot see Harris losing myself. The only loons involved are those prepared to vote again for the worst President in my lifetime, a convicted felon and obvious fraud.

I refuse to believe that, as a whole, the US voters are quite that stupid. I pray I am right. Trump winning would be a disaster for us and the world.

Does the left actually exist, other than in insignificant numbers, in the USA? The Democrats aren’t remotely left. They just have a tad more social awareness than the Republicans under Trump.

How Trump will be restrained for 4 years should he win will require great fortitude and cooperation among the other western nations, alongside some careful background work in Congress. Thank goodness it could only be 4 years. Unless he actually tried to do what some fear.
