Unemployment & Economically Inactive

What’s everyone doing now? According to our resident globalist lecturer there’s loads of Holers on the silicon politics talk. What’s everyone drinking in Wetherspoons right now?

I'm at home all day today, living off my huge criminal enterprises and inheritances.

Still, it could be worse, I could be a landlord I suppose.

To quote the philosopher Dennis Quaid in his magnum opus Inner Space (not really that was The Big Easy).
"When times are hard it's a brave man who can kick back and party".

I'm busy hunting down and deleting evidence of Trump colluding with the Russians over the 2016 election.

Any day now any day.

Don't forget the Stormy Daniels sex tape.....Oh and that incident with the Russian hoes in that hotel room one time....he's only just paid off the dry cleaning bill.....Tell Vlad to burn those receipts too.

anybody into gambling ? Bookies should be made exempt on payouts to anybody in receipt of the Dole. Its a misappropriation of funds.
Drug dealers used slot machines to launder their earnings apparently, or am I a drug dealing, benefit cheating him politics talk oik?

Shove loads of cash in, take the average % RTP Return To Play payout receipts as proof of clean money to try and prevent it being seized and kept by the authorities.

There’s been some new legislation on online slots. £5 person max or something, which is high anyway. £2 max I think for under 25’s. That kind of gambling is morally reprehensible.

These numbers are simply mindblowing.

  • Estimated net migration to the UK - the difference between numbers arriving and leaving - was 728,000 in the year to June 2024
  • Some 1.2 million people came to live in the UK in this period
  • Estimates for net migration in previous years have been revised upwards - the total for the year to June 2023 now stands at 906,000
  • About 1.3 million people came to live in the UK during that period and 414,000 left
  • Elsewhere, Home Office figures show 99,790 people claimed asylum in the year ending in September
This was on the Tories watch and frankly I still don't believe the revised numbers. To get a job at the ONS you have to be graduate of the Diane Abbott school of Accounting.

I would happily tax the s*** out of the bookies I suspect that would raise far more money than the farmers.
What I don’t like about the bookies is they will restrict anyone who succeeds to maximum payouts of £10 yet anyone doing their nuts gambling they’ll tempt them into losing more. Online automated games are criminal imo yet they still find people unwise to the fact they’re programmed to screw you over.

Yes I heard about the revised figure earlier and scratched my head when I knew they had been around 200,000 out on net migration to the UK. The evidence is at nearly all London borough bus stops after school apart from Bromley, bits of Sutton and no doubt Kingston and Richmond.

how many Lads landed at Pevensey Bay in 1066 ? ten thousand ? maybe twelve thousand ?
In fairly small boats. And that was the end of Olde England.

and another idea about the Longterm unemployed. They should not be permitted to inherit wealth in the UK. The tax allowances, for inheritance, should be for working people only.
You cannot scrounge all your life and then suddenly become wealthier than everybody else - including working taxpayers.

Included in this idea is the recognition that much overseas wealth is owned by the longterm unemployed. My news radio mentioned a fella from Rome. He was longterm on the dole in our rainy climes - with a free house cos he had kids here. But, of course, he owned a business back in his hometown. It was a coffee shop or a bakery or some-such. The lack of joined up bureaucracy worked very well for him. Plus there was much family wealth back there that he stood to inherit. Totally immoral, and totally happening everyday.

He flew back and forth many times a month. Building up wealth in one country, while living, scrounging, & spending in a different country. And probably drove a nicer car than yourself, the taxpayer.

Disagree with you on this.....it's over-reach.

The state doesn't get to tell me who I can and can't give an inheritance to. We aren't talking about criminals here....Yet you want to treat people you disapprove of like that?

When you say unemployed this can include the disabled, both mentally and physically or both, the mother who raised the guy's kids instead of worked. It can include many instances that don't include 'work-shy'.

Are we managing everybody's life now? Coming up with endless restrictions on what people can do? This kind of thing is moving towards telling me I can't shove a cake down my neck because of some percentage on a spreadsheet....it's the banning boxing brigade.....it's already telling me that smoking fags is unacceptable (I've never smoked in my life) but my response is that unless I'm blowing it in your face, that's none of the state's business.

The state should always know when it oversteps the line and many of us note that this line is being continually moved towards being a nanny and a bossy Karen one at that.

i take your point. People who have worked hard to earn their money are entitled to leave it to whoever they wish....unfettered. And i agree with you on that part.
The problem i have, is longterm scroungers ending up wealthier than working people. Its unfair to the taxpayer who has carried an unemployed person for decades.

Lets separate out a) the giving of inheritance money from b) the receiving of the same. If the kids of Richard Branson inherit a ton of money, that is only fair if they never scrounged on the dole for a lifetime.

Both Conor McGregor and JK Rowling spent ages on benefits before making their millions. In both cases they were on the dole while putting in the groundwork to their profitable success.

Your point about wheelchair people and all that is correct. But there are many layabouts playing golf and/or video games after getting signed off for life.

Indeed, but now (certainly in JKR's case) they're probably paying more in tax than most people earn in a year, so I would have no comeback on people who do come good and then pay their share.
