Tyrick Mitchell

It is possible to play with a back 4 and still have a left back who can attack.

Look at Robertson at Liverpool, Kerkez at Bournemouth, Robinson at Fulham, Digne at Villa and Hall at Newcastle.
All are capable of providing strong support to attacks and hitting first time whipped crosses from the left .

There is a danger with us of restrictive thinking i e it's either defensive Mitchell or attacking Chilwell.

From my viewpoint I think it's unlikely we'll see a dramatic improvement in the attacking side of Mitchell's game at his age and after so many games.

Mind you, I said the same about AWB and he seems to have taken the attacking side of his game to another level at West Ham.

I don’t see how anyone can come to the judgement that Chilwell is ‘clearly a better player’ after watching him play for us for a combined total of about 80 mins. You need a much bigger sample size than that. After 4 games of the season Lacroix looked like a liability. After 25 games he looks fantastic and a great signing.

As ever lots of people saying we need the same attacking threat down the left as the right. Yet Mitchell and Munoz both have the same number of assists in the league
LOL really?

You only need to have a passing interest in football to know Chilwell is clearly better. I could see that from watching him play.

I guess it's just sheer coincidence that this guy has got a PL winners medal and a champions league winners medal, plus has 21 caps for England.

But yeah, one couldn't possibly say if he is better yet....haha

All stuff he did in the past with a different club. What I'm interested in is if he can bring that to Palace in the short spell he is here. Yes, he had a few runs against Everton but he didn't defend the deep cross to the far post at all well and from which they scored, therefore his contribution to our game was negative imho. Time will tell.

Outside of Palace, i totally agree with you, BUT, he's now at Palace which is a different environment, so, no, you can't tell if he's a better player, as he hasn't been here long enough to judge. As someone posted earlier, after 2 sub appearances, no, after, say 7 or 8 games maybe/yes, dependent on minutes played.

Chilwell's skills were clear to see against Everton. Ok, he is still obviously rusty as he hadn't played competitive football for nine months. But it looks like he has still got his proven talents that he is well known for. We did very well securing his services for the remainder of this season and I am hopeful for the club that he performs. Dougie is doing a fantastic job for us on recruitment and it looks like this could well be another very shrewd move.
Many posters here and fans at the ground have been moaning about our lack of potency on the left since Glasner introduced his system. Not only should this help resolve that issue, but it also gives us good cover which we have desperately needed for too long.

I read a report about AWB several years ago, apparently he started out in his footballing career as a winger but was repositioned into defence somewhere along the way -

Edgar Davids won the Champions League twice, Serie A and La Liga as well as 74 caps for the Netherlands. Obviously must have been amazing for us by your logic.

Let’s see how Chilwell does after a few games. Hopefully very well but let’s see how he gets on.

To be fair Davids was 37 when he played for us... Chilwell has only just turned 28.

There have been times when Mitchell has been fantastic for us. He defo has a good footballers brain. The only question for me is, the state of his legs and his current form.
He is still an Eagle for me. But we do need to work on his levels of concentration and the form.

if i recall correctly, Davids had also spent the previous one or two years drinking pina Colada on the beach.
Davids was shockingly bad for us. And yet one of the greatest of all time, in his prime.

Chillwell is a welcome addition to the family.

Both often try/ tried to take too many people on.
Yes I agree, and it confirms the point I'm trying to make between the lines - for TM to make it worthwhile venturing forward he has to receive the ball, and it's my impression that those two were / are too interested in their own game to bring TM into play.

Speaking of left backs, Schlupp is playing there tonight for Celtic against..........Olise with Bayern Munich.
Perhaps if he does well at left back, we can call him from his loan!

Thomas Brolin was 29, when he turned up at Palace. He had won 3 European Trophies and 3rd in the world Cup, didnt perform at Palace.

Chilwell played two diagonal cross field passes in his first match that Mitchell is simply incapable of doing.

He is a class if not a couple of classes ahead of Tyrick in terms of vision, passing ability and natural attacking flair. Mitchell looks the better defensively however it would appear that is not what OG is looking for.

As many have already said, Tyrick is a decent full back but a very average wing back.

Knowing Palace we’ll get rid of him, then get a new manager and revert to 4 at the back and instantly miss him. That would be very Palace.
