Tottenham vs. Crystal Palace match thread

It is starting to feel like the stars are aligning to relegate us this year. Partly of course due to our poor transfer business.

Yep we seem intent on getting ourselves relegated this season. Imploding all over the place.

Poor transfers
Poor tactics
Poor defending
Poor individual errors
Players stropping
Fan groups disbanding

Am I forgetting anything?

Stop saying sack Sage, the players have not thrown in the towel. Get behind your team,we are playing well and very unlucky to be down to ten.I think we look much better going forward than under OG, yes we are more vulnerable at the back but I believe PS deserves more time to get it right!!
Sadly, the Premier League is not very patient as far as time is concerned.

Would someone explain to me what you would do differently with 10 men and three available on the bench? Ok our defending at the corner was dreadful with no one picking up Gray at the back post but that aside we’re defending for our lives and look better defensively than earlier in the season.
Sage shouldn’t be judged on this game after the sending off. Interesting that Clinton said he’d not been helped by the transfers. He’s also been unlucky with injuries, had 2 games played with 10 men, his best striker has been sulking then injured, and Wharton has been poor.
I would argue the manager has made the players worse. He’s supposed to make the team better!

The problem is that the free headers at corners are a repeated failure that Sage has not corrected. Most teams at all levels could manage to improve that after so many instances and our defenders aren't that bad that they would not be able to.

It’s not like that is an independent thing to Sage’s management. In fact one is connected to the other. Most of the players look poor because under Sage we have been absolutely dreadful. Equally playing with ten men isn’t random it is symptomatic of a lack of discipline and organisation in this team.

As for saying we are defending better I just can’t believe I am hearing this given this is our 8th goal conceded in 5 halves of football. Yes 8th. In our last three games so far the aggregate score is 8-0 against. I really don’t know how much more it will take for people to see Sage is a disaster and needs to go

Sage has got to go - he’s shown nothing that he has any idea how to turn this around.

He’s hell bent on his formation - despite clearly we don’t have the players to play it - that’s on Parish.

But beyond that Parish should have acted after the Brighton result - he didn’t - as we all knew things have not got better and we’ve wasted another 2 weeks.

Now we’re really up against it.

Does anyone in the coaching staff, or the team ever discuss why we keep giving free headers at the back post? A problem that has been there time and time again, yet it still happens.

I looked at the league after Forest’s loss and thought the same thing. Our league form under Glasner was dreadful second half of last season and he has carried that on into the Forest job. Mary Knickers will notbe slow in preparing the P45, then we get Sage who does the same but with batshite crazy suicidal wingback attacking.

The only conclusion I can reach is that I’m not sure who is going to be sacked first, but I wouldn’t have either of them to be honest.
Yeah, I was under the impression that Sage got the job because he would continue with the Glasner formation (or a variant thereof) which illustrates to me at least that Parish wasn't paying attention to the complete loss of league form using that system and was mightily distracted by events in Europe. Chancer Parish then thought it would be a good idea to sell a couple of key defenders and bring in much worse replacements. One doesn't really need to be a master in hindsight studies to appreciate that the seeds for this season's mess were sown by Parish & Co last season.

As Adam Faith would say, “Poor me”

The red card has tilted this game firmly against us. For my money a yellow card and final warning would have sufficed. The ref, who was on the spot and had a far better sense of the context, thought yellow but of course, var must get involved and ruin a contest tens of thousands have paid to see.

None of that, however, explains the most free header in history from a corner. That's nothing to do with the red card. If not for that, they've actually not created too much, which makes the defensive failure all the more galling.

It was a red card offence.

You cant go in with studs this has been the case for over a decade its always a red card.

I think Mateta knew what he was doing remember the guy doesnt want to be here.

We have been poor on set pieces its not new even in pre season we was conceding them.

Sage isn't accountable for Oliver's ridiculous decision to ruin the game. No Mateta in defence, calls for reorganisation, which the players failed to do. We have generally defended far better, but with no out ball, it is continually coming back.
We are just having to defend deep, 'All hands to the pump' in the area.
The problems have arisen in games where we have taken the game to the opposition.

Also I would suggest that players such as Mitchell, Wharton, Richards, etc did not suddenly become bad players at the turn of the season. Leadership change required.
