Tottenham vs Crystal Palace match thread

Whatever system is in use there will always marginal decisions that'll never please everyone.

What seems to have been lost in the discussion is the biggest thing its stopped, diving.

We've all seen it, players going down without being touched. I see a couple my my mind now. Salah at SP and Ashley Young at Utd, with that prick Lurgy claiming there was contact. WHAT!!! contact in a contact sport, outrageous!!

So as I see it the only thing worse than VAR is not having VAR
I could not disagree more.
I actually think diving has gotten worse since VAR and go as far as saying imo at least half the penalties given nowadays are “diving” “cheating” “playing the ref”. You only have to go back to our game last weekend to give you a prime example.
What I would agree on is that it could be used to cut out diving. Whether the current bunch of officials could be trusted to do that is a different matter.

Cunha was fouled, he just made the most of it.

Its nothing like what went on before VAR
Rubbish. So putting your hand on the shoulder of an opponent is a foul these days is it? Even though there was no push, pull or shove in any direction? Football is a contact sport.
In an age where it is seen as perfectly normal to push, pull and even shirt pull during a game is often NOT seen as a foul by the referee but you think placing a hand on an opponent's shoulder is a foul?

Hmm, right oh then

Nonsense, he was fouled the discussion was about whether it was inside or outside the box.

What I saw was he was fouled outside the box but Lacroix still had his hand on him inside. Shirt pulling isn't normal and can get a card.

Not a foul. If Cunha had stayed on his feet the referee would not have blinked. It was Cunha that conned a foul. And you by the looks of it.

“Making the most of it” indeed is the real problem. That is diving in my book. The screaming dive when going down is seconds after the hand is already off the shoulder. I do not think it’s a foul at all. Anywhere else away from the box any player would stay on their feet. Even if it was the “foul”is outside the box. Where was VAR? No card given on the pitch, ah VAR all of a sudden shows up… a goalscoring opportunity my axxe, when he would have gotten to the ball he would be near the goal line.
Then to add i insult to injury: in the ground they tell match going fans the check is for the Penalty. The longer it goes on the more convinced I am I have seen it right, no pen. Then all of a sudden it turns out that the check is for a Red.

It is a shambles, I am aware it will not be scrapped but it surely will be a reason for me personally to go to games less frequently.

I dont think anyone that knows football does. As I said, if Cunha stays on his feet throughout does anyone seriously believ the referee is going to blow his whistle and give a foul for a brief hand on his shoulder? Of course not

Oh Lord!
Still on about the Lacroix red card and penalty - let it rest, it's over and done and there will be very many more contentious decisions for and against us to discuss in the future. Should have been on the Man United thread.

It's sad how many have been conditioned to just accept obvious, blatant diving as part of the modern game.
VAR should be utilised to stamp it out, yet week-in week-out we see it go unpunished!

Cunha was fouled (impeded) by Lacroix outside the box. Lacroix pulled him back and prevented Cunha getting away from him. He was no longer holding him back when Cunha entered the box but unfortunately Max did still had 3 fingers on his shoulder when he threw himself to the floor and the ref bought the dive. It may have been a very soft penalty but he was fouled when Max initially held him back.

Absolutely agree diving has got much worse. The amount of face holding is embarrassing
