Tottenham vs Crystal Palace match thread

Amen, you see a still on a screen, Sarr is just behind the ball, done perfect goal. That was not offside. Then showing a graph from automated where nothing shows up does not help.
And if you wanted to be as accurate as they pretend to be, then surely we need to see the same accurary applied to the ball leaving the foot. I have not got a clue how it got to this in the PL as you’d think they would review the way it is used.

It also felt very odd, but looking at the still, Sarr's leg was bent and his knee looked by far the most 'forward' part of his body.

But the var reconstruction of Sarr his upper body is much more slanted than in real life...

I fully accept that I have been a 'Doomsayer' on HOl, accordingly it will come as a suprise to be informed that I have concluded with a great dollop of certainty that we shall be plying our trade in the PL next season.👍👍
Surely we need another 6 points or so before you can make that assertion ? 🤔

Sharp, I had not even seen this….

This shines a light on how reliable the whole thing is… It started all with the absurd introduction of the 3D lines, completely ignoring the “ clear and obvious” principle that we thought the whole thing was agreed upon.

It annoys me when watching at home but when at games it drives me truely mad

regardless of the body part and whether it's head, foot, daylight between players (as proposed by Wenger), if we're going to use technology to assist decisions there will always be this forensic studying of the point of being offside or onside. It will simply change from Sarr's forehead to ascertaining whether there's a millimetre of daylight between Sarr and the defender UNLESS there's a big change in how/when the tech is used. I.e. we don't care about millimetres any more but the whole 'clear and obvious' means what it's supposed to mean.

His nose was offside. With Munoz's conk you would think he would be offside all the time.

I’ve been saying, well since var started really, when it’s that close, when they’ve got to sod about for 3 or 4 minutes with the poxy lines it should be ruled onside, and I’ve said that when we’ve benefitted from a decision as well,,basically if it’s that close, it’s not clear and obvious
Or, as I believe Gary Linaker put it, "If they need to draw the lines, it's onside"; that was how the rule was before Variable Adjustable Refereeing.

How accurate can VAR be in identifying the exact millisecond the ball left a player's foot? Probably, not accurate enough to rule out goals such as Sarr's last night and many others over the season (some against us - Glasner pointed to the disallowed Watkins goal against us as another example).
Yes much as we were all chuffed it was disallowed, that goal should’ve stood

Whatever system is in use there will always marginal decisions that'll never please everyone.

What seems to have been lost in the discussion is the biggest thing its stopped, diving.

We've all seen it, players going down without being touched. I see a couple my my mind now. Salah at SP and Ashley Young at Utd, with that prick Lurgy claiming there was contact. WHAT!!! contact in a contact sport, outrageous!!

So as I see it the only thing worse than VAR is not having VAR

Has it stopped diving? What about Cunha last weekend?

Regards off-side.
Make it simple: draw the lines by feet position only.
That does away with the body slanting, flailing arms, prominent noses, and the rest of the nonsense.

As for the match.
I was massively disappointed with the second half.
We showed no inclination to improve our GD against 10 demoralised men.
Loads of possession but most of that was back and side passing by the back three.
When we attempted to break through we were dispossessed - Kamada and Uche notably guilty.

Why was there so much sideways/backwards passing?
1. We didn't have the skill or confidence to bring it forward. Wharton provided two great assists but he gives the ball away too frequently.
2. Instead of making space Kamada was particularly guilty of playing it back. The only player keen to accept a forward pass was Clyne, who was our liveliest player and put the younger ones to shame.

With Lacroix back on Thursday we should win but until the midfield providers sharpen their game we will need to be better than against Spurs. I fail to see the assets of Kamada or Uche as an impact sub.

Glasner and Wharton both said they were disappointed too with the 2nd half. That being said, I'm okay with playing a bit more conservative to maintain a lead.

There was a time when you could go and watch a football match, get caught up in the thrill of it including the ball hitting the back of the net (where all you'd have to look for is the linesman's flag), leave at the expected time and no doubt vilify the officials for getting things wrong.

These days, you go to watch a football match, can't really enjoy the thrill of the ball hitting the net as it might be ruled out, with no idea whether there'll be 3 or 23 minutes added on (each half) so any other plans for your life are folly, and no doubt vilify the officials for getting things wrong.

I preferred celebrating goals when they went in and going home near enough when I expected to.

Just me though.
