Tottenham vs Crystal Palace match thread

I fully accept that I have been a 'Doomsayer' on HOl, accordingly it will come as a suprise to be informed that I have concluded with a great dollop of certainty that we shall be plying our trade in the PL next season.šŸ‘šŸ‘
That's it were down Willo what have you done . I can see the SEVEN HORSES OF THE APOCALYPSE coming over the brow of the hill now 😫

Thought we played well up to red card and that their goal was against the run pf play.

A bizarre few minutes, offside by a nose (FFS), they score and van der Ven fancies an early bath. Attack vs defence for 15mins and the game is over.
It seemed over for us pretty poor performance in the 2nd considering it was against 10men, no wonder Glasner was disappointed with it.

I reckon 38 points is probably enough to keep us up so job done and we've still got 11 games to go.

Not sure what's happened to Gallagher, didn't seem to have same energy as when was with us, maybe its the system maybe its him but at the rate Spuds are going he'll probably be available in the Summer.

100% the system, he'll never have a better time than what he had at Palace. That role was literally perfect for him.

But its also why I wouldn't want him back, he'd be useless in our current team.

That game shows the importance of a solid back 3 if you’re going to play that way. Aside from the Spurs goal when Richards went walkabout and Canvot didn’t fill the gap, our back three played as a unit. Spurs back 3 were all over the place . No structure whatsoever and easy to play through.
Riad looks comfortable on the right side of a three. He doesn’t have Guehi’s vision when we have the ball but he rarely puts a foot wrong defensively. Richards is much better on the right side. While we miss Lacroix in the centre I think Canvot will gain hugely from th run in the team he is currently getting. He’s been caught out in the last couple of games by waiting for the ball rather than attacking it but will learn from these mistakes. I saw Glasner chatting with him at the end and hopefully coaching him. Of the back three he is the best with the ball at his feet. His passing forward last night was quality especially the ball to Wharton for our third goal. He is a big part of our future and with him and Riad having to step up and doing well, another centre back may not be our priority for the summer after all.

Agree on Canvot - hope we prioritise giving him minutes in the league for his development from here, because there’s a hell of a player in there.

Agree re Gallagher, just not the same player - maybe his £200k a week wages is slowing him down.

Not a great 2nd half but i suppose the points were won so needed to be preserved (Newcastle winning v Man U whilst down to 10 as an example).

Canvot - still not convinced by his defending, but he does try to be positive when he has the ball at his feet and this is to be commended, especially as the other 2 (and Kamada) were just happy to play safe.

The team could have been more ruthless in the second half, but it almost felt like perhaps the players struggled to cope with the atmosphere and felt sorry for the Spurs team. On that showing Spurs are going down. They lacked leadership, tactics, effort and pretty much everything you need to win a game of football.

Big positives last night were seeing Wharton pulling the strings and the makeshift defence standing up strong. Also, is someone injecting ice into Sarr's veins before games? The guy is so cool, and surely the main contender for POTY as it stands.

It couldn't have been easy for the Palace players in the second half, playing to a near-empty stadium.

Why did you have to say that? Now you've done it. If we go down with the most points in a 38 game season, I'll come gunning for you Willo. šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜†

Seriously, I do think we will be safe but will feel better when we've passed the 40 point mark with several games to spare. Home wins against Leeds and West Ham would do the trick.

I’ve been saying, well since var started really, when it’s that close, when they’ve got to sod about for 3 or 4 minutes with the poxy lines it should be ruled onside, and I’ve said that when we’ve benefitted from a decision as well,,basically if it’s that close, it’s not clear and obvious
How accurate can VAR be in identifying the exact millisecond the ball left a player's foot? Probably, not accurate enough to rule out goals such as Sarr's last night and many others over the season (some against us - Glasner pointed to the disallowed Watkins goal against us as another example).

Bet Phil Thompson is glad he's retired. One step in the other half and he'd be offside.

i've always said VAR should have a 1 minute limit.

It's for clear and obvious errors - if a decision can't be made within 60 seconds then it's not clear and obvious. Similarly, this would favour the attacking side, which surely is a good thing.

If cricket has a umpires choice for really close LBWs (so close so go with the on field decision) then football could do the same.

These offsides are killing the game - 5 minutes to decide a toe is off/on side is ridiculous - give the goal and move on

Reflecting back on the game a few things to take out of it beyond just the win

- Wharton played well. He was noticeably further forward where his passing could do damage. Seems to have picked up his form again
- Kamada didn’t play well individually but him being in the team does seem to free up Wharton more. Does he make the team more effective? Probably
- JSL is a big upgrade on what we were getting from JPM. Movement, competitiveness etc
- the back three did ok. Like many I was worried about them but Riad and Canvot played well on the whole. Given their lack of experience they were good. We will need to be patient with them but positive signs
- good to see Sarr back to his best challenging the opposition defence with runs in behind
- I liked the fact we managed the game 2nd half. Learned our lesson from Burnley

Which is why we paid what we did for him - we saw the potential.
Think fans only remember the finished player when they talk about Guehi , he made mistakes he made a big one against Brighton and cost us the game , we will see Canvot get better each year he his still a kid so mistakes will happen , if to many then that's a issue

Amen, you see a still on a screen, Sarr is just behind the ball, done perfect goal. That was not offside. Then showing a graph from automated where nothing shows up does not help.
And if you wanted to be as accurate as they pretend to be, then surely we need to see the same accurary applied to the ball leaving the foot. I have not got a clue how it got to this in the PL as you’d think they would review the way it is used.

This is the the key, isn't it? He looked as though he was behind the ball so VAR can go and fornicate itself with an iron bar.
