Lucy Connolly who urged people in an online post to burn down Hotels containing Immigrants has been given a 31 month sentence .

incitement to violence & murder ? swings and roundabouts.

And a question. How many hundred yards are you from a bookshop selling ancient texts riddled with violent incitement ? Homophobia, anti-semitism, violent censorship, violence against women, financial exploitation, enslavement, etc etc ?

did we imprison the book publishers or the bookshop employees ?

Lets see what happens to the suspended Labour councillor who pretty much advocated the same sort of stuff albeit on the other side of the political spectrum
I doubt much at all will happen. This was a 'far right' incitement to attack innocent asylum seekers, which resulted in no attacks at all. Whereas, a Labour councillor's concerns were merely addressing his constituents views. Nothing to compare! It seems that we, or at least this government, have released actual criminals, who are guilty of real offences against our citizens, to free up space for political prisoners. The prospects for the next five years look decidedly dire.

i thought the Rotherham hotel full of asylum seekers was set on fire, or at least attempts were made to that effect. Making these posts at such a heightened time were clearly wrong and who knows what impact they had.
It does seem a heavy sentence but that's what happens when the court system wants to set a precedent as they did recently with the Just Stop Oil protestors.

I have always been against courts setting a precedent (punishing someone as a deterrent) e.g. a celebrity or high profile person. Surely we are all equal in the eyes of the law. I want justice to apply evenly rich or poor famous or not.

As to the Stop Oil protestors I am not sure it is a fair comparison. There have been lots of bleating about the so called heavy sentences whilst ignoring the obvious.

All of these protestors had been arrested and found guilty multiple times and had been released on bail. At what point do you stop letting people off on the promise they will behave which they then ignore and commit crime again?

I would not expect a shoplifter to be jailed on their first conviction but if they keep doing it at some point the judge is going to say bail is not working.

I have to say that if you call for stuff to be burned down over social media, you're not the smartest. Desperate maybe, and angry but probably deserves some kind of a sentence. Maybe it's harsh, maybe not.
Where I would have a concern about it are radicals calling for people to be killed every day of the week - and only rarely are they imprisoned.
We know the government and security services don't have the resources to keep close enough tabs on all the terror suspects. Several on watch lists have simply gone on and committed terrorist acts. But, funnily enough, they seem to have the resources to arrest, charge and imprison rather stupid English people. And any observer is going to think there was no real likelihood of this woman actually doing anything.
Perhaps time for British to act like Muslims. One gets arrested and threats, threats, threats from our community leaders.

It's already a clear as day double standard in treatment between whitey posting stupid stuff and getting relatively rapid 'justice' and jail time and their own lefty saying stupid stuff and then getting a trial and then having his trial pushed back to January.

Funny how he or his lawyers seems confident enough to receive a trial but seemingly no one else did.

watching 'the World at War' with Lawrence Olivier, one realises that 'refugees' are not, strictly speaking, a race. No more than Christians, left-handed people or football fans.

So it is a struggle to understand the chain of logic in these convictions.

It points to the Nastier tone of the Tory Party . Now unelectable and they have earnt a name for dishonesty.

whether you like it or not that's the way the law works - sentencing for a crime is not a fixed amount and there is usually a range that can be applied. Other factors are clearly taken into account and also let's face it the individual judge's judgement.

In this case the woman clearly showed no remorse and afterwards posted some really stupid comments - e.g. i'll play the mental health card if i get arrested etc.

These would not have helped her case

But that is not setting an example, if she was punished because of her lack of remorse I have no problem with that as a factor in her sentencing.

Where did you get that from?

I remember reading comments from her that she regretted the post and considering she took it down soon after that's ample proof.

As for making stupid comments, if that's now illegal I'd expect we'd have to have a prison on every street and day release for endless numbers of soy boys.

Also, yes, that's how the law works now....when it selectively chooses to...but importantly these laws hadn't been on the books for most of English history.....and here the law is an arse.
