Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

One would have been a central defender, on the expectation that Guehi was leaving, it looks like diomande was his replacement, sporting want too much money, Guehi doesn't look likely to leave so the club has walked away, we play with a back three so CD is a position we need to strengthen, might not need a direct replacement for Guehi but we should be still looking at that position regardless.
and you know we aren't because.......

I dont know we aren't, I do know it's taken us untill one week before the season to do it, instead of 8 weeks ago.
No need to wet your pants, OG's happier than you think/believe . . .

Is he ? The last interview he gave he basically said, it is what it is, there's nothing he can do now is there so his got no choice but to get on with it. When are managers ever happy, they'll always want more but I dont think his demands this summer were unreasonable and we should have been better.

Take a lead from Glasner, try to be positive, instead of countless negative posts.

Whilst i fully accept Palace are by no means the only club struggling to get players in and clearly the European issues haven't helped, we know that Glasner wants players early in pre-season as he has said that for the last 2 summer breaks.

Also, last season's poor start was a clear indication that it takes players 3 or so months to bed into his requirements - Sarr being a perfect example, as he was pants until about Nov/Dec. Lacroix also took a while before he started performing as expected.

So for those who say be positive or wait until the window closes are missing the point.

Whilst the 1st X1 almost picks itself if/when we have injuries and need to rotate due to Europe etc we will clearly struggle.

Similarly if Eze and/or Guehi were to leave we are massively exposed.

Reminds me a little of 1991 after we finished 3rd. No investment that summer and once Wright left a couple of months into the next season our lack of a plan B was massively exposed.

1. You aren't taking into account the lack of pre season / preparation that was available to the players on international duty last summer....and the fact that some sustained injuries in the process. I saw most of those 8 games and we weren't far off the standard just not quite hitting it. This pre season has been hugely different as Glasner himself has said.

2. I disagree. We all know what Glasner wanted. It's what they all want - players in early and a full squad for pre season. We know it hasn't been delivered. A lot of the debate on this thread is about the possible reasons for that.

3. The window is not shut yet !!

4. Part of problem is that we aren't the kind of club that can go out and sign replacements for our top players until we know they are leaving. What's your solution to this exposure ?

But the fact that we have a very solid first 11 is 'A' point. And in most positions we have some reasonable cover. So unless we are very unlucky we'll be ok for the first chunk of the season.

And because of that, we dont need to be silly and sign players for over the odds.

So no, if we ended up no making any more signings I'd be pretty disappointed. But as we stand there still is a chunk of the window to go, and we've got reasonable PSR headroom. And 2 loan spots.

The CF position looks thin. If, heaven forbid, Mateta was to get a knock that has him out for a month, and with Nketiah already out, that leaves Edouard to fill the spot - what irony! Unless OG was to stick Sarr upfront, which would call for a change in tactics, what with Sarr not being the type to hold up the ball and bring others into play.

What do you disagree with? Have we had a good window and i've missed something?

You said people are “ missing the point “ - I don’t think they are - I don’t know of anyone on here that thinks we’ve had a good window so far . And yes, there is a realisation that a commitment to Glasner hasn’t been honoured

There are three people on here ( maybe more ) that either can’t understand the above or just refuse to. And one of them wants to replace almost half the team that won the FA Cup ! 🤣
Think you’ll find there’s more than 3..!!

You stand still in this league you go backwards - it’s that simple..!!

People want signing for signings sake. They would have happy with anyone with a foreign sounding name and a £20m price tag.

They keep shouting that everyone is signing players. But (top 6 aside) who has been signed that either we'd want, or is better than the player being replaced? Literally none.

There is a pecking order (hence why Newcastle cant sign for love nor money), this European participation appeal (which you'd expect players wanting to know the outcome), the difficulty of signing depth (not all players are going to be happy to come in for 'depth') plus the usual negotiations and price bumping.

Despite what some might believe, we are in a pretty good position from a squad perspective. We'll start the game on Sunday with the same team that won the FA cup. But it also means that we:
  • Dont need to pay silly money to plug gaps in the starting 11
  • Dont need to get any old player in (because the better players will be holding on for, see above)
And as some of the above gets sorted, and I'm sure we'll get some back up in. And hopefully a couple of decent loans.
No-one is saying signings for signings sake..!!

Point is we need quality in depth to rotate seamlessly to be able to deal with European and Domestic campaigns - ATM we don’t have it..!!

Don’t get this whole starting XI thing it’s a 16 man game now - for that you need a squad of 20 quality players to allow for injuries and suspensions..!!
