Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

Look at our starting line up v spurs, first game back in the premier league.
Then flick forward every 2/3 years . You’ll see how much better we have become.
Full of internationals.
The word champions number 2 goalkeeper (that I doubt is as good as our number 1)
We’ve got 4 from the euros England squad (one of them made the team of the tournament)
Arguably the in form striker outside the top 6.
And none of the above was voted out player of the year ,last year.

Think you’ll find there’s more than

3..!!

You stand still in this league you go backwards - it’s that simple..!!

No-one is saying signings for signings sake..!!

Point is we need quality in depth to rotate seamlessly to be able to deal with European and Domestic campaigns - ATM we don’t have it..!!

Don’t get this whole starting XI thing it’s a 16 man game now - for that you need a squad of 20 quality players to allow for injuries and suspensions..!!
Oh yeah of course - you’re the one that wants Richards, Mitchell, Kamada and Sarr replaced 🤣

My issue with some of those on this thread is not around the need to reinforce the squad. You don't need to be Einstein to work out that the involvement in an additional competition will have an impact.

The window so far has been pretty much the standard operating model for the club. In a perfect world a manager/head coach would have a fully formed squad to work with come pre season. And I'm aware that Steve Parish made a commitment to Glasner that we would do our transfer business early this summer.

That we haven't done so I find disappointing. And as I've previously stated, a bit surprised, given that we have an ambitious manager on board.

So while acknowledging that, I have tried to understand and articulate the potential reasons why we are where we are. I'm not going to repeat them again now, but I think they are valid. And of course, just my opinion. There's an element on here that just want to take aim at Parish and can't accept that there could be mitigating circumstances. In their heads it's '' excuses ''. And yes, he's an easy target. But one thing he's not is stupid. He may be a little more risk adverse than some would like him to be ( think John Textor ) but I'm personally ok with that.
Wrong - it’s not a Parish thing..!!

It’s a strategy thing and we get it wrong every summer window..!!

I have come late to this thread, having not read it because the title itself seemed a ridiculous concept.

Until the CAS decision is known nobody, especially people like Eze and Guehi, know what their own decisions are going to be. If we win I think both will stay with Guehi signing an extension at increased wages with a set buy out. Maybe Eze, and others too. Any incomers depend this. If we lose and they go then we replace with first choice players and buy some back ups too. If they stay we replace with back ups capable of playing in the cups.

I expect many options have been explored and conditional arrangements agreed, so things could move quickly next week.

It’s obviously not ideal and will frustrate Glasner but he isn’t stupid. He knows how these things work.
If it was ridiculous - why reply..??

Europe position has no bearing on our available transfer funds..!!

You're not wrong, but tell me how many current PL clubs have achieved a squad of 20 quality players?

I don't think we're not trying to improve the squad as soon as we can, but the board can't wave a magic wand to make it happen when we all want it to happen.

IMO we currently have 14 fit outfield players who meet the quality criterion – the 10 who started the cup final plus Hughes, Lerma, Clyne and Devenny. Sosa is unproven but looks like he might make the grade once up to speed in the PL.

Beyond that 15, we’re struggling:
  • Both Nketiah and Doucoure are injured and out for a couple of months (at least in the case of Doucoure) and then they’ll have to get match fit and will need to improve on their performances from the last time they were match fit.
  • After that, we’re looking at youngsters
  • Esse who looks like he could well prove himself at some point during the season. How soon, though, is the question?
  • As for Riad and Franca – will they ever be serious options with their current injury records?
I’m hoping we can bring in at least 3 to cover the gaps. Yes, it will take time for them to get up to speed both with Glasner’s system and with the PL if they’re from other leagues.

The one plus point is that we can (at present) start our season with the cup winning team, a team that knows the manager’s system and don’t need to get up to speed. That has to count for something, especially as few other clubs are in that position.

Good reasoned post - only thing I would disagree with is Clyne - sadly don’t think he’s at the required level anymore..!!

Take a look at the title of this thread - the one that you started and then tell me that you haven’t been blaming Parish for our lack of transfer activity
Never blamed him just said he needed to start doing business..!!

Question why are you constantly defending the strategy of inertia that’s caused us issues summer window after summer window meaning that we have a poor start to the season and we end up playing catch up..??

I think you only read selective parts in my posts.

On more than one occasion I have expressed my frustration with the window to date.

I have then tried to understand possible reasons why there has been a lack of activity. And then articulate them . And I stand by them as valid but of course that’s my opinion only - which I have emphasised more than once

Yet more abuse..!!

Mate if you have nothing constructive to add to the debate - why post..??
Because you are totally deluded, a stream of drivel comes out every time you post, trying thinking before posting, you never know you might get to like it

Oh dear, didn't you not long post, "if you haven't anything constructive to post . . . Why bother?" Same could be levelled at you, nes par?
Maybe - but I was only responding to what had been fired at me..!!

Look simply my take is that this window thus far has been abysmal..!!

We had/still have a great opportunity but the inertia in transfer dealings thus far means that whatever momentum we gained from winning the FA Cup and qualifying is in danger of being wasted due to our normal strategy of procrastination in transfer windows in terms of getting our business done early..

The whole Europe thing in terms of transfer budget is a nonsense - as others have said it’s less than £10M - which is nothing in terms of premier league transfers..!!

Other teams are doing business and improving there squads - we are not, so in real terms we’re going backwards..!!

We require quality in depth in the squad and that needs to happen quickly otherwise we’re going to struggle big time in terms of dealing with a European campaign as well as domestically.

Funds are available it’s widely reported we have £90M of head room in relation to PSR - so why the inertia..??

It’s that simple..!!

Not asking you to agree with me, but that’s my view as things stand at the moment..!!
