Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

One of Glasner's more recent interviews was quite reassuring in that he said late business isn't ideal but with the limbo we are in re Europe and the machinations of agents 'it is what it is' - it can't really be helped. I agree we usually do our business too late but moving both Guehi and Eze on while also securing suitable replacements is not easy, there are too many variables to ensure you get the timing right. If you move them on first and worry about the replacements second you are in a terrible bargaining position.

It’s actually quite funny seeing people defend this transfer window, it’s been a disgrace let’s be real regardless if we haven’t lost any of the first team players. We need be spending money on the squad and pointing that out ain’t being negative it’s the truth.
That's just your opinion though. You're not stating facts. Here's my opinion, to counter yours:

Without the poor start from last season (which was a result of many things), we'd have finished 6th or 7th I believe - if you ration out the average points from the last 3/4 of the season. So we have a very good premier league squad. This season we have a far more settled squad...with no major outgoings (so far) and added much overdue cover in the LB position. We've also good every reason to believe that players like Kamada and Esse will actually contribute this season far more than they did last season. We may also get a fit and firing Docoure back at some point.

Some people just want us to splash cash for the sake of it - but business doens't work that way.

Yes, with the added competition, we need a couple more. And I have zero doubt we'll get them over the line. But those who run the club have a couple of things on their plate right now...not sure if you've noticed.

There are three people on here ( maybe more ) that either can’t understand the above or just refuse to. And one of them wants to replace almost half the team that won the FA Cup ! 🤣

it seems you have the intellect of a rocking horse, all of 8 days a member now
What is it with you and the constant abuse to other posters..!!

Don’t you have anything tangible / worthwhile saying to add to the debate other than direct abuse..??

I said to you before it says more about the intellectual capacity of those that resort to abuse to others than those they are abusing..!!

The manager wanted buisness done early, we can judge the club on that aspect of it, they've failed.
Don't most managers?

I know I would want a confirmed and settled squad with as much prep time for a new league season (not the mention Community Shield and possible Conference League qualifier) as possible.

But as others have said there are bound to be moving parts. Outgoing and incoming.

It's the same thing every season. First team good enough until injuries, suspensions, African Nations Cup kick in, then it's over to shuffling the pack, some emergency cover in January, etc etc.
Winning the FA Cup and qualifying for Europe have led some folk to great expectations, but if one were to look at the squad in the cold light of day 12th place explains itself, and Parish is happy with a 12th place finish.
There's a real opportunity to push on for a top ten finish if everyone stays fit and the club make a couple of judicious signings / loans. We'll know soon enough, but if we use the past to analyse the present, so far it's same as it ever was...

Before Europe, how many times did you read posts from people saying that they don't want European football, we dont have the squad to handle it, it will be at the detriment of our league position and what's the point risking our place in the league for a tinpot European competition. These are probably the same people who are now defending our squad.
12 months ago we had a starting 11 but injurys late returns from international duty stopped us moving forward , we wasn't as bad as people have said on here we had bad luck , you cant cover that , we have 17 players by Glasners reckoning at the moment , I'm not sure if thats right myself but im not at training sessions , we are in a better position than last year , forest brentford fulham dont have better squads , yes i would love us to have all our transfer done , but we havent there the breaks , parish trys to keep our best players first tell me is there anything wrong with that , so lets see how the season starts before making judgement calls on transfers

Reminds me of the debate about Olise a while ago - did he have a release contract or not and was it set at £35million with Chelsea about to exercise it.
Some on here were adamant that there was no such provision, but it turns out he did and the upshot was that Parish successfully renegotiated a new contract with Olise with a higher release contract which Bayern eventually exercised.

The reality is that nobody on here knows for sure with regard to Eze in the absence of sight of the contract.
I think we can all agree that it’s unlikely to have a deadline at the end of the window since this would give no opportunity to get a replacement.
So working back from that date it could have expired or it could run for another week or so (the latest story today is that it expires 2 weeks before the end of the window).

The point is that it’s unlikely that anyone on here knows for sure so we will all have to wait and see.

Exactly

People want signing for signings sake. They would have happy with anyone with a foreign sounding name and a £20m price tag.

They keep shouting that everyone is signing players. But (top 6 aside) who has been signed that either we'd want, or is better than the player being replaced? Literally none.

There is a pecking order (hence why Newcastle cant sign for love nor money), this European participation appeal (which you'd expect players wanting to know the outcome), the difficulty of signing depth (not all players are going to be happy to come in for 'depth') plus the usual negotiations and price bumping.

Despite what some might believe, we are in a pretty good position from a squad perspective. We'll start the game on Sunday with the same team that won the FA cup. But it also means that we:
  • Dont need to pay silly money to plug gaps in the starting 11
  • Dont need to get any old player in (because the better players will be holding on for, see above)
And as some of the above gets sorted, and I'm sure we'll get some back up in. And hopefully a couple of decent loans.
