Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

Why are you talking about a first XI for..??

You’re allowed 5 subs - the game is now a 16 player game, beyond that you never heard of injuries - they do happen you know..!! Look at Nketiah - now out for 6 weeks..!!

We’re now in Europe potentially another 15 games, we need a squad with quality in depth to cope with that, injuries and the ability to seamlessly rotate - so that when you make a change it makes no difference to the strength of the team on the pitch..!!

Disagree - if everyone stays there are probably 7 that would be difficult to replace but the likes of Richards, Mitchell, Kamada and Sarr, could be replaced with better players..!! Do that and they drop to the bench then you have quality in depth..!!

The squad is nowhere near that ATM - so get your head around that..!!

Agreed re squad depth and we got lucky in the second half of last season with the form and fitness of certain players (Munoz; the back three; Eze/Sarr/Mateta).

Two aspects which could be relevant to this window beyond the "who stays/who is going?" dynamic:

1. There could be a couple of academy players who could do a job, even if not first choices, in some of these positions. Glasner has mentioned in preseason that "one or two are close" to the starting XI. Could these be academy players? He might be bigging up some egos or it might be that a new first teamer emerges by surprise.
2. The board and manager might think that loans are a good way to fill out the squad if the first team shirt for that position is nailed down. Chillwell, Turner, and initially Chalobah are all evidence of this strategy. So one or two late loan signings might be planned to fill out a currently threadbare looking squad.

We’ll soon see who is pant wetting when we have another sh@te start to the season..!! We shall say - told you so..!!
I tend to look at how we finish the season rather than start it. Bitching about our activity in the transfer window when there's still so much of it left seems like throwing tantrums to me

If there’s anything to be read into our lack of activity in the market thus far it’s that Parish has most probably failed to convince Glasner to extend his contract this summer, ergo he’s leaving next year and SP isn’t going to change his approach to negotiating transfer deals for a manager who won’t commit to staying.
Any odds on this lad Alonso being our new manager next season?

We finished the season 12th, does our current squad better that, maybe by one or two places at most, why would we not want to improve, its competitive sport, what's the point otherwise.

Loans ain’t progression Mate..

I just can’t my head around why Parish isn’t going all out to maximise the opportunity we’ve created for ourselves.

Time after time he talked about taking us to the next level - now we’re here he’s p@sing it down the toilet..!!

By that I mean adding quality in depth to the squad - to deal with a European campaign on top of our domestic commitments.

To do that we’ve got to have the depth to rotate seamlessly and deal with injuries - it’s well reported that OG doesn’t like big squads - so if everyone stays, which is now looking increasingly likely to be the case - we’re probably talking an additional 3 quality players/signings.!!

But get them in now to give OG time to work with them..!!

Look if we say signed Martinez, Hackney and McAtee - with what else we have that probably would do it..!!

They’re all available and that would cost us what £80M - that ain’t big bananas in todays Prem and funds we must/do have available..!!

That’s what’s frustrating me..!!

I've been following this discussion on this thread and it appears to be broadly divided into two camps,

1) Glasner and the posters who wanted early deals to prepare properly for the season with a match day ready squad (as oppsed to just the first team) from Day 1.
2) Those who presumably don't mind if the squad isn't properly settled now as long as it is a month down the line after the window has shut.

I'm in the former camp.

It's our first year in Europe with the extra demands that will entail.
Can anybody seriously say we're properly prepared at this stage?
I know there's another few weeks of the window and it could be that there will be some decent signings- we usually manage that - but at this stage the squad doesn't look ready to hit the ground running if there are injuries ( see Nketiah).

I'm not a fan of loans either but if we have £X in the kitty, and that enables us to...

1. Buy 4 squad players, or
2. Buy 2 first teamers and loan 2 to fill out the squad

... then I can stomach it.

It does seem to be the way we have worked in the recent past.

Before Europe, how many times did you read posts from people saying that they don't want European football, we dont have the squad to handle it, it will be at the detriment of our league position and what's the point risking our place in the league for a tinpot European competition. These are probably the same people who are now defending our squad.

Agreed, well said and my point entirely..!!

Are you really as thick as two short planks, the time for criticism is after the window shuts, oh sorry, i didnt realise you were from Plaistow, my apologies
Imagine calling someone thick then saying in the next sentence that the time for criticism is after the window shuts 😂

It’s actually quite funny seeing people defend this transfer window, it’s been a disgrace let’s be real regardless if we haven’t lost any of the first team players. We need be spending money on the squad and pointing that out ain’t being negative it’s the truth.
A few of us are not necessarily defending it. Just reserving judgement until the window is closed.
