Time to start doing Business Steve..!!

On the pod with Gary Lineker, Steve Parish said they are always looking a year ahead to the state of the squad due to contracts expiring and such like.
When Dougie left, Oliver said they had started planning for the summer in February.

This "distraction" about the Europa league is exactly the point. Parish etc can't begin to rebuild for a European season until they know what money they'll have to spend. If we have Europa League, we'll have much deeper pockets than if we play in the conference league.

Also there's a much better chance that we hang on to our better players if we are in a more prestigious tournament.

It's not Parish loving the limelight, it's Parish having no information on where his parameters are.

Last season we finished mid table whilst supporting a cup run. Could we feasibly finish mid table whilst winning the Europa Conference with our current squad? Answers on a post card...
Last season our cup run consisted of playing 6 games to win the cup, with weekends put aside for the cup in the early rounds. Off the top of my head to win the Europa Conference would entail playing 15 games. That's in addition to any games we play in domestic cup competitions.

At this stage, with the depth in our squad (or lack of it) I honestly believe such an overload of games could seriously jeopardise our season, with risk of injuries and fatigue.

Of course we could go out in the play off stage, or we could substantially strengthen our squad, so its all hypothetical, but I have my worries about participation in this second rate competition.

It's a fair analysis, but we did field quite strong teams in the FA Cup whereas if we were in the Conference I think we could get away with resting a few more. Also we inevitably loan someone from Chelsea at the last minute.

Every year we get the same old posts from fans who know nothing about what is going on behind the scenes of our club. The levels of assumption are nothing short of remarkable.

Over the last few years we have made some excellent signings, which is why all these top clubs are after our players. Guehi to Liverpool, Eze to Arsenal, Wharton to Spurs, Mateta to Juve, Lacroix to Dortmand and the reason for that is all those teams recoqnise just how good the Palace players are. So much so that on top of that our recruiting staff get poached . We also have an outstanding manager who we will be lucky to keep here.

The board have done a brilliant job to give us the best Palace team I think I have seen in my time supporting the club. That has finally resulted in us actually winning something..

We will do well to keep the players we have and if we do I would be more than happy. Do we need more decent signings? Especially as we now have European football to contend with, yes but what club doesn't.

Why would anyone assume that the club don't know that we need a bigger squad for the upcoming season and are so busy giving interviews that they aren't signing players.. Ridiculous...

I'm glad Steve Parish is giving interviews about the situation. We have a chairman that engages with the supporters in a way that other supporters envy.

Steve Parish and the rest of the backroom staff have made mistakes in the past but they are mistakes that as a supporter, I can more than live with especially when I see what goes on at other clubs..

And yes, I am a Parish lover. In Parish I trust.. (Even though socially he appears to be ever so slightly knobish. Long live his knobiness).

COYP...

Regarding Guehi to Liverpool, Liverpool’s transfer strategy has been thrown into turmoil by the death of Diogo Jota.

Liverpool’s management were hardly going to return from the funeral and start signing players - this would have probably been seen as highly insensitive. Besides, Liverpool probably need to now reassess their whole approach, and may decide to sign attackers rather than defenders. This will not be a decision to be made overnight.

I know this is speculative, but if Liverpool were going to sign Guehi, it’s not going to happen as quickly, and may not happen at all now.

This may all have affected our own transfer plans recently.

They were going to sell Jota - which is not going to be talked about now.

I now think that none of the first 11 will go, Guehi might in the new year window, and i think 2/3 small signings or loans, and that's your lot. fine by me.

Exactly, This window especially, there are so many unanswered questions and so many angles to consider. All we have is the speculation of others, who may or may not be in the know. As supporters we never really know until the dust settles. Which is why the annual "We haven't signed any players" post always makes me laugh.

You know more than Alan Nixon of the Sun, who says that both Eze and Guehi are departing this window!

Not only that, he suggests, but Wharton will be off to Liverpool at the end of next season as he wants one more season with Palace first ( I doubt Nixon has ever even spoken to Wharton, let alone about his plans).

I hope the current squad can stay together for the new season because it has consistently demonstrated that it can compete with the best teams in the division.
There’s no reason why Palace could be as effective as Villa and Forest were last season as long as key players remain injury free.

The situation with Eze is interesting if there a stop date on his release clause being exercised.
It makes sense to have such provision as you don’t want clubs exercising a release clause on the eve of the new season with Palace having little time to bring in a replacement.

Everyone holds out until the last day for the best deal. That is, unless they're offered crazy wages which will make up for it. We're not offering 200k a week so we have to wait. Glasner may not be used to such mercenary behaviour in other leagues. Their transfers would all be minor in Premier League terms - the only others would be Saudi deals (because who the f*** wants to go there), Real Madrid, Barcelona (when they have money), PSG and maybe Bayern. Even the big Italian clubs will not be spending the same these days.

So far we've had no offers for any players. There is so much clickbait about who is going where. But not a single enquiry about any of our players.

I got panicky last year that we would lose key people, specially after Olisé went. But none of the media speculation came to anything. Liverpool for Guehi has been talked about for months, have they contacted club? No. Same with Eze to Arsenal, nothing.

Whether palace are managing to hold potential suitors off until the CAS decision is made, who knows.

But for now, I'm not worried.

Alan is bestie’s with them all and gets all the gossip

Yeah I’m another on the side of supporting Parish and the club on this. Yes, we do need a squad that can handle the potential additional games but additions don’t have to start the PL season to help with that and I think our strongest 15-16 players at the back end of last season were up there with the very best we have ever had. The two new signings fill notable gaps.

Yes we have left it late in the past and that is nervy but that is when we have got some of our best signings. We did amazing business replacing Olise and Anderson last year, and the signings of Wharton and Munoz were pretty late in the previous window too.

If Parish is distracted to say it is because he loves the limelight that’s ridiculous. The Europa League decision is worth millions from a purely financial perspective.
