The new government – good accomplishments and bad?

More expense then, just like if they did all apply for it, there’d be no saving of £1.4 billion to save the economy from crashing and a run on the pound the now grown ups running the country say will happen.

Just raise the threshold or build it into the tax calculations and end this sh1t. Maybe they think building something into the budget will save their reputations, but I doubt it. Big rumour is they’re going to end free bus passes. It’s more than a bus pass to the elderly. It’s a lifeline to shop, socialise, actually meet and talk to people and keep their sanity. This government are truly wicked. I expect in a matter of weeks I won’t be able to say that when the new social media laws come in, only a child rapist will be set free to make way for me to be terrorised by whichever gang in prison.
Here's a solution..... since MP's salaries (and expenses, but we'll leave those for another day) come out of the same government money pot as pensions...ooops, sorry retirement benefit and all those other benefits payable to the most needy, why don't we treat them (the MP's salaries) in the same way as say, Universal Credit or Pension Credit, and for every pound that they earn doing 'other' jobs - Directorships, TV presenting, Newspaper columns et. al, deduct the equivalent amount from their salary, just as they do with benefits for those that really need them .....soon fill that 'black hole' and on £90k plus, plus expenses, would they really notice it? A couple less dinners at The IVY, a few less bottles of wine......

Lammy on TV today said that politicians need money to buy clothes so that that they could dress well as representatives of the country. This from the man who wore a suit with trainers to America!

They weren’t even smart trainers you see on sky sports Monday Night Football. They looked like battered old trainers used on a treadmill or pounding the pavement jogging.

He can’t dress himself properly for an important meeting with the American president. The jacket and trousers don’t match.

He's representing his constituents by raising their concerns. He clearly can do no right by you.
No he isn’t. He is playing politics as usual. Such things are determined by all MPs acting together.

What I am talking about is the work of the MP in the constituency, addressing local issues and individual concerns. Which they cannot do if they are spouting political points as a presenter on TV.

For 3 hours a week. Yup that will impact his work in his community I’m sure!
Reform are going to batter the other parties next may. You do know that don’t you. All your bluster will be a distant memory.

Stop them from taking second jobs across the board.

I think that’s not a bad idea. We don’t though want to discourage the brightest and most able from considering serving as an MP and taking a drop in earnings does that. So I would not penalise anyone until they reached the same salary, plus inflation, that they earned in the tax year prior to being elected. I would also make it compulsory for businesses to offer a sabbatical for the period an MP serves, with a guarantee of reemployment, or redundancy settlement, should they either decide not to stand again or lose their seat.

I would also have vigorously applied rules on the number of hours that an MP can spend on any outside interests and restrict them to non political activities. Putting yourself on TV as a paid presenter being political. Appearing as a party spokesperson being ok, but for expenses only.

There are no bright and able ones currently. However, some of your other ideas aren't bad.

It’s not the number of hours! It’s the role.

No MP, from any party, should have a platform of this type.

Fringe parties generally do better in local elections. The LibDems the living proof of that. Low turnouts and the inconsequential nature of the result encourage protest votes.

The bluster is entirely yours. Enjoy it. It won’t come to anything.

It’s what happens to the Tories which is important.
