Summer Transfers 2025 (rumours and incomings)

Why did Arsenal sign Rice for £110m with 12 months left. To guarantee they get him.

In 12 months time, Marc may, have every big club in world football offering him a contract. Liverpool might not look so attractive if Barca, Madrid, PSG come calling.

At present, c.£40m for a 25 year old England centre back that walks straight into 18 teams in the league is a good price.
The point of losing him to one of the Euro giants is the only thing in our favour. I personally don’t think the Isak deal is going to go through given Ekitike’s form so it’s not like Liverpool don’t have the funds to make the Guehi deal happen for say £40m which I think is reasonable to all parties.

I watched Liverpool last night and they were very fortunate to win that game. Their defence looks shaky and the solid partnership of Konate and Van Dijk no longer looks secure. Guehi could be very important to them winning the league. A suitable arrangement would be give us Gomez and Elliot and give them £10m.

Guehi still has a contract with us for this year so he can risk waiting until next Summer and then, choose the club he wants, get all the sign-on bonuses he likes plus/or more favourable contract terms than if he leaves now for a fee. You never know, Palace could have had offers and Guehi could have turned them down,

I never said £40m for Guehi wasn't a good price - I said that why would you spend £40m when you can get him for free next year. Even if there is a bidding war for his signature next summer, it'll still be cheaper than paying for him now. None of the top 6 sides NEED him for this season, so why spend the money on him now?

Yes he is a 25 year old England starter but it's not as if the likes of Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal etc really struggle with signing that calibre of player is it.

Because only 1 team will be able to get him next summer (or this summer for that matter!).

So if you aren't one of the very best teams (Newcastle, Villa, Utd, Spurs etc) your best strategy might be to buy him now, as you wont be able to complete on the open market.

If Guehi is determined to join Liverpool, and they want him, it will happen whether it’s this summer or next summer.
The difference is that they would have to pay a fee for him this summer , but they would’nt next summer.
He may already have this tacit understanding with them.
The seeming lack of interest from him seems strange, but clubs may believe they are wasting their time if he’s earmarked for Liverpool.

On the broader issues of transfers and players I hope Newcastle and Brentford hold firm on Isac and Wissa.
If players under contract are allowed to go on strike in this way the game is heading for anarchy.

We seem to be forgetting that if he does go on a free next summer that his input between now and then could be worth more than the £40 million that people think he is worth today.

We don't really know what Marc's feelings are on this matter, but my guess is he would only agree to sign for one of Chelsea, Arsenal, City or Liverpool, with rumours it was him that rejected Spurs in January, not Parish. If he signed for Chelsea he starts as things stand. Arsenal he's back up. City have said they're not buying anyone else. Konate has been a liability for the first three games, so as it stands he starts for Liverpool too. I think Liverpool will move late in the hope of squeezing Parish as low as possible, while also allowing us time to find a replacement, as until that happens, we really can't sell him.

If we did get 35-40m for Guehi then in theory we could get a replacement for the now in Akanji and one for the future (rumours circulating around a few young centre-backs at home and abroad in the region of 15-20m). That wouldn't be bad business.

But Guehi isn't going to any of those clubs is he, he's a guaranteed top 4 player. Point I'm trying to make is - none of those teams NEED Marc Guehi right now. And for this season, Marc Guehi doesn't NEED any of them. Palace could do with £40m in the bank to spend on other players but unfortunately none of the other parties involved give a monkeys about that.

Konate has started badly at Liverpool but bear in mind they still have the same defensive partnership that won them the league last year. They're not gonna rock the boat too much by guaranteeing game time to someone ahead of what they already have.

Liverpool’s management are not stupid, they will already know that back two is not what it was last season. Don’t be surprised if they come in for Guehi end of this week.

Lunch time Tuesday and still nout but rumours.

I’ve got a sneaky feeling that f*** all will happen until we know the result of our fixture Thursday. Plus SP loves the headlines on Transfer Deadline Day… a day completely invented to something on SSN.

It's not that surprising to be honest. Palace have stated they want £40m - all those clubs have starting centre backs for this season so they could go and spend £15-20m on a back up CB and then get Guehi on a free next summer.

Means options for them are £40m this summer for 1 centre back or £15-20m by next summer and have 2 centre backs

We also need to remember - Liverpool could buy the majority of centre backs in the world for £50m. Why would they get close to that for a guy they could sign for free in 12 months?
Because teams like Real Madrid love freebies as well! Next Summer, the World's Guehi's "lobster" 😉

He turned down Spurs in January as well as Newcastle a year ago. I think its becoming a badly kept sectret that Liverpool is the only club he would want to leave Palace for at this moment in time.
Obviously in a year from now he will probably get enquiries from Real Madrid, Bayern etc which you'd have to at least consider but I would imagine Liverpool will be where he ends up. This week or next year.

My thoughts are that the back two are as good as last season. It’s the new players right and left of them plus the new players in front of them not defending as the replaced players did to win the premiership last season. Guehi in my opinion looks better in a middle back 3 with Richard’s having the aerial support for us. That system could work for Liverpool if they are prepared to change to that formation?
