Summer Transfers 2025 (rumours and incomings)

They have done it before with other teams in various comps over the years, these are the 'sanctions' available to them to dish out for any, how shall we say, 'disrespecting them', disrespecting the comp' not unlike the FA where there are squillions of rules/sub-sections etc they can enforce in an obscure way of wording, if you catch my drift.

We have 'poked' the bear, let's hope it continues it's slumber & concentrates on other matters. Let's go win the Conference League & upset them. I do hope, tho, probably a losing one, that fans act as they would/should at SP whilst away in Europe, banners/flares etc.

I was still unsure what legislation covered it so did a bite of Googling. The Football Offences Act 1991 and Public Order Act 1986 wouldn’t be relevant as that would be down to the Police and UK Courts to administer. I did however find, as you quite rightly say, UEFA sanctions handed out to some clubs for breaches in relation to UEFA Regulations.

PSG were fined €10,000 when their supporters displayed a ‘UEFA MAFIA’ banner with as pigs head on it at their Champions League Final v Inter Milan last year.

Last year Norwegian Club SK Brann were fined €5,000 by UEFA for a ‘UEFA MAFIA’ banner and singing anti UEFA songs at a European tie, they appealed to UEFA but this appeal was rejected. They then took the case to CAS who overturned UEFA’s ruling and nullified the fine.

*** CAS found completely in SK Brann’s favour, citing Freedom of expression as a ‘core human right’ and that a Legal entity such as UEFA do not enjoy the same protection under the European Convention on Human Rights. CAS stated, “Legal Entities such as UEFA do not enjoy the same protection as individuals. There is no ‘pressing social need’ to protect UEFA from insults and that ‘UEFA Mafia’ is obviously not to be interpreted as a factual statement, implying that UEFA represent the mafia or any other form of organised crime”. UEFA were ordered to pay the clubs legal costs ***

Looks as though we will be ok as this CAS ruling will form part of a precedent should UEFA try any similar charges against a club in the future. I note PSG are less likely to appeal as their €10,000 fine for the banner formed part of a bigger set of fines for pitch invasion and digging up the turf. These they did not contest and so a costly appeal purely to have a €10,000 fine overturned seems illogical.

On the transfer front, I am struggling as to why our shareholders with a combin d worth of $20 BILLION don’t create a loan kitty of say £100 million to ensure a solid season ahead.
Why do you think they're worth $20bn??

There are specific rules in place that the club is responsible for it's supporters and what they do. They can fine you for "F$CK UEFA! banners and so on ..... But their are more subtle ways for protests to trick these rules. For example UEFA can't fine a club if all supporters are late and enter the stadium/stands not earlier than 15 min after kick-off and then go fully behind the team. Pictures of an empty stadium or at least empty stand of the die-harts at kick-off are usually broadcasted widely and commentators usually not shy to deliver the reason behind them. Makes more sense and receives more attention than a "F$CK UEFA" banners or similar, which have been seen for decades in Europe and are nothing extraordinary.
Genius

Newcastle have wealthiest owners in the world.
They are not allowed to put money in to buy players. Have to pay attention to PSR. Doesn’t matter if they pay up front for players and even put total wages due under their contracts into escrow. They still can’t do it. Big 6 have pulled up the rope ladder to stop it happening and threatening their hold of the epl.
