Caicedo cost them £4.5 Mill, Mac Allister nigh on £7 Mill and Cucurella nigh on £15.5 Mill.
They made a substantial profit on these players !

I inferred the myth was that every player they sign is good. I think everyone agrees their recruitment strategy has been successful though as the poor players have been more than offset by the good ones (at least financially). Their use of Opta (I think that's what they use?) to scout players, in particularly ensuring they fit their style of play, is the envy of many.

I do think with more financial backing we could have matched that via our DoF just as well though. My interpretation for Palace is that we've had to be more certain of a player's ability as we can't afford to get as many wrong as other clubs around us. On the one hand I think the percentage of players we've brought in that have been of a high standard is really high. On the flip side, we don't have a deep squad of talent because we couldn't afford to take as many risks.

They use "Starlizard" as it is Bloom's own company, same one he uses for Union Saint-Gilloise & Hearts.

Ok fair.

I have no doubt, that we can and will match them.

Our big issue was that for so many years we bought old players with no sell on value. This meant that every window we up against in. No transfer fees coming in, and a few of the starting 11 needing replacing.

As we stand, we now have a good first 11, so can start to look a little bit more to the future. And, if our first 11 leave, we'll get good fees for them.

Our recruitment over the last couple of years has been excellent.

100% agree with all of this.
 
See Zinchenko is being linked with West Ham for £12m. He's 28 but very good player IMO and would be an upgrade going forward on Mitchell. Would be good competition between both and he can also play in midfield.

It's a myth that they have a great recruitment model.

It's a throw s*** at a wall approach. It's the sheer number of players they sign and they've been fortunate to mug off Chelsea because other than that very little and their net spend is massive. Yet they are revered for it.

I prefer what we do, by miles.

I believe they have signed around 40 players in the last 5 seasons.

He's on 150,000 for another year. Arsenal have screwed us lately with Nketiah, Holding and Lokonga (loan). I'd much rather we bought that young Senegalese guy there was talk about in January. We should probably have pushed the boat out for him then than pay for the rarely-used Chilwell

Its a case of signing very talented kids knowing that some will not 'take off'. Mazimising the income and going again.

Looking across the league at the 5 year net spend figures. Even with their £200m spend last summer only Everton, Leicester, Southampton and Wolves have a better net spend.

So people can bang on about the spend last summer, but they earnt the right to do it.

Pretty good proof that the model is working

Personally I don't think their model works and the wages and long contracts will cripple them.

have to agree.

They seem to buy young players a year or two before they 'need' them and loan them to lesser European league to adapt to European football. Clearly it won't work for every player, but even a 1 in 3 or 4 success rate has proved to be very profitable.

It also means when they sell a player for silly money they don't have to rush into the market to buy a replacement.

They do appear to be paying big bucks now (Rutter for £40m after a pretty average time at Leeds!!), however, as they got so much for players like Caicedo, Cucurella, Ben White to Arsenal and Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool etc they can afford to do so.

I know he's had injuries but maybe sending Franca out on loan might have been a better option for us and him.

We're all going to disagree on whether their recruitment is good or bad, but let's all unite in the hope that it turns out to be a spectre and a huge financial burden in a few years.

For sure....Chelsea is a team that some in the family supported in the past.....So I don't actually mind them.

However, purely just as my objective view I don't think their model works.

But it's just an opinion and it'll be a while before we know who's right.
