It'd be interesting to see how close Forest are to the PSR threshold again. They have received some money for Elanga and other but yesterday's splurge must have seen them get closer and the signings feel like they have an element of randomness to them.

According to Capology he's on £60,000 a week and Villarreal have to pay it all now he's gone there. Maybe the club thought bringing in a bit part player and paying him more than the captain wasn't a good idea so pulled out of the deal.

My hunch is we sounded out Solomon as a back up when renegotiating Uche's transfer from an immediate one to a loan-to-buy (probably done last minute as the lack of funds from no Guehi sale). Had Getafe not accepted then we'd have lost Uche and gone for Solomon. But they did and reports suggests we then backed away from the Solomon deal.

You're right though a couple more loans in would have been good, especially a RB.
 
It’s likely that players going for free will become more commonplace.
We’ve exploited it ourselves with Lerma and Benitez.
Apparently our agreement with Lerma was made in the spring before his contract with Bournemouth expired in the summer.
More money in the pockets of the players and their agents.
We’re also not averse to lowballing clubs when players have one year left on their contracts e.g Brooks who is worth at least twice what we offered.
Witness Newcastle complaining about Liverpool’s behaviour on Isac, and then exhibiting the same behaviour with Brentford on Wissa.

To paraphrase Al Pacino in the Godfather, ‘we’re all part of the same hypocrisy.’

Or it makes me think of Animal Farm -all Premier League clubs are equal , it’s just that some are more equal than others.

We had about nine years where Wilf going then hoorah well done Steve he’s not going was a successful window. Now fast forward and it’s Guehi. It just masks the lack of spend.

Guehi staying gives us some much needed breathing space.
The club can determine the progress of Jaivot and Riad and, if they are not ready, prepare properly for the eventual departure of Guehi by sourcing a proper replacement .
At least in theory, but it will probably be another 11th hour scramble!

One odd feature of the window was the pursuit of Salomon.
Unless he only became available at the last minute, it seems strange that the club would leave this until the last few hours of the window.

I'm not sure there was a Summer transfer budget. I don't know this but I do wonder whether our transfer budget went to pay off Textor's loans to the club, hence our reluctance to spend until we had a firm sale in the form of Eze. Parish has said we've got a lot of outgoings this financial year.

Whilst we haven't spent all of what we got for Eze and Edouard etc., the balance of some £15m or so is probably earmarked for the purchase of Uche next Summer.

If we need to source a replacement for Guehi when he goes (as opposed to another young prospect) then it will be out of next year's transfer budget (assuming there will be one large enough) or out of the sale of Wharton or whoever.

We have to remember that the club runs at a loss and that won't begin to change until a new stand is built. Furthermore, our billionaires are investors - not football lovers per se and are only likely to loan the club money in extremis, i.e., if we're in a relegation fight.

That's my take but then, I am Doombear.

On the bbc's rolling sports news, they have put up a graph of team spending in this window, Forest have spent £205m & received £107m leaving a minus £98m & with a £105m losses allowed over 3 years for PSR, they could be in trouble(he says hopefully). The other thing seem to have forgotten about is UEFA's FFP, it is much stricter, i'm not sure of the figures, but, both Chelsea & Villa have been fined for breaking it. As we are now in Europe(god, that sounds great), we too, are subject to FFP.

I don't think Forest care. They'll find a way around it or pay a fine. I think we can probably safely say they won't be excluded from competitions. The most I can imagine the Premier League doing is deducting three points with a fine (maybe not even any points). UEFA a large fine by their standards - like a million and something. But that isn't going to bother Forest is it?

Thats whats most frustrating. Owners with deep pockets will spend at will.

And either sell of the ladies team, car park, or goal posts to get them back in the black.

Yes the realisation of the future decisions due to when or if Guehi goes on a free will cause the next fallout. True, until a new stand is built, this is our reality.
 
In the Lineker podcast Parish said the club always looks ahead and plans accordingly e g you want to avoid the contracts of key players expiring at the same time.
In theory this sounds fine, but in reality we usually end up with lastminute.com windows.

Sorry to bring up Brighton, but they do proper succession planning
Bisouma is moved on and replaced by Caceido who in turn is moved on and replaced by Baleba, always at a vast profit.
It enabled them to ask Man United for £100+ million if they wished to pursue Baleba.
They are rarely involved in last day transfer scrambles and often have players lined up for the following season before the current season has finished.
It can be done.
Yes, I know they are tte enemy and we won the FA Cup and they didn't- but the point about transfer policy I think has validity.

Villa were fined about 10m euros and Chelsea about 25 m or so and are threatened with much bigger fines (x2 or x3) if they don't get their transfer dealings in credit - hence Chelsea having a positive net transfer figure this window and Villa a small negative net figure. I'd be surprised if Mary Knickers wants to risk that level of penalty.

In reality the club cannot do much about it if 1. the player refuses a new contract and 2. interested clubs repeatedly think they can get him dirt cheap because of it. Newcastle dicked us around all summer then finally offered his value with no time to rearrange our squad to cope with his departure. Liverpool take the moral high ground but they've done exactly the same thing albeit with a lower starting figure because of the less time on his contract. If Palace consider selling him in January they need to make clear what the price is AND go and get a replacement in thats affordable. Then all interested clubs know the score and we keep him for the final 6 months of his contract if we keep getting low balled.
