We regularly see teams performing like Forest, shooting up the leagues and threatening to break the glass ceiling to the sound of gasps all around, they're not a standalone example, but it hasn't yet worked out for anybody on this approach yet. If they go the same way as all the others they'll capitulate and be back down in the Championship in a few years.

It'd be interesting to see how close Forest are to the PSR threshold again. They have received some money for Elanga and other but yesterday's splurge must have seen them get closer and the signings feel like they have an element of randomness to them.

Any explanation of why the Manor Solomon deal fell through? Odd that the year when we have extra fixtures we haven't used the loan options. Probably just one fallout of leaving everything to the last minute

According to Capology he's on £60,000 a week and Villarreal have to pay it all now he's gone there. Maybe the club thought bringing in a bit part player and paying him more than the captain wasn't a good idea so pulled out of the deal.

My hunch is we sounded out Solomon as a back up when renegotiating Uche's transfer from an immediate one to a loan-to-buy (probably done last minute as the lack of funds from no Guehi sale). Had Getafe not accepted then we'd have lost Uche and gone for Solomon. But they did and reports suggests we then backed away from the Solomon deal.

You're right though a couple more loans in would have been good, especially a RB.

We had about nine years where Wilf going then hoorah well done Steve he’s not going was a successful window. Now fast forward and it’s Guehi. It just masks the lack of spend.

If we’ve taken in £60+ million for Eze and Edouard I suspect we’re in profit from this summer’s dealings.
I don’t believe we’ve spent this sum on our new acquisitions in which case we may not have even touched this summer’s transfer budget (assuming there was one)!

Guehi staying gives us some much needed breathing space.
The club can determine the progress of Jaivot and Riad and, if they are not ready, prepare properly for the eventual departure of Guehi by sourcing a proper replacement .
At least in theory, but it will probably be another 11th hour scramble!

One odd feature of the window was the pursuit of Salomon.
Unless he only became available at the last minute, it seems strange that the club would leave this until the last few hours of the window.

I'm not sure there was a Summer transfer budget. I don't know this but I do wonder whether our transfer budget went to pay off Textor's loans to the club, hence our reluctance to spend until we had a firm sale in the form of Eze. Parish has said we've got a lot of outgoings this financial year.

Whilst we haven't spent all of what we got for Eze and Edouard etc., the balance of some £15m or so is probably earmarked for the purchase of Uche next Summer.

If we need to source a replacement for Guehi when he goes (as opposed to another young prospect) then it will be out of next year's transfer budget (assuming there will be one large enough) or out of the sale of Wharton or whoever.

We have to remember that the club runs at a loss and that won't begin to change until a new stand is built. Furthermore, our billionaires are investors - not football lovers per se and are only likely to loan the club money in extremis, i.e., if we're in a relegation fight.
