Southampton v Crystal Palace match Thread

With Southampton 1-0 up and in anticipation of the play acting and time wasting to come, I timed the ‘ball in play’ for the second half.

It was in play for 24 minutes 15 seconds of the 45.
It was in play for 4 minutes 30 seconds of the 8 minutes time added on.
Brilliant! If the League doesn't track this – and make it public – then some enterprising stats-keeping firm should. I'd love to compare formal time-wasting by club, but also by teams when ahead v. level v. behind (!).

Some matches become as devoid of action as golf. (I say this as a golf fan who would dearly like ALL tours to adopt visible shot clocks, and enforce the pace-of-play rules.)

You sat watching the game with a stop watch. Pressing stop and start, when the game stopped and re started ?

The defence didn't work with Clyne. Munoz had a poor game. Eze in and out. Mateta drew one good save. Everyone was below average. Maybe tired and not fully focused.
We need to be twice as good against the idiots we have at the weekend.

Yes this surprised me, we really missed Richards in dealing with that massive lump they had up front (who played very well). I was disappointed with Clyne tbh.

In hindsight Lerma would've been a better bet and supported LeCroissant, with Devany in the middle instead who covers some ground and gets about.

Or Kamada in the middle who has looked better in recent cameos. Would certainly prefer Lerma at the back this Saturday if Richard’s still out. Hughes back for midfield spot hopefully as well if recovered

lol can you imagine that with Patrick Cantlay? OMFG that guy is horrific.

The game should have 60 minutes of play and would put an end to play acting, having to go off to be treated when actually injured, time-wasting.

I'd also clamp down on where throw-ins are taken from to the point of putting markings every 5 yards on the line where you have to take the throw from the NEAREST line. In that game when Eze was pro fouled by Downes for a yellow we had a threat on. Madley the wanker took it back so far out we had nothing on, but a minute later they had a throw-in 5 yards in our half but by the time he'd taken it he was 5 yards from our 18 and threw it into the box for a chance - Madley did nothing.

Paul Onuachu is as tall as a hop pole.Nathan Jones signed him from Genk for £18 Mill. His goal return for Southampton is not impressive. Had Hughes been available, I suspect Lerma would have played in the back three rather than Clyne.

Yeah, although I was stood up.

TBF I appreciate it sounds a bit naff but it was just easy to do with the stopwatch app on the iPhone and I was just fed up and pissed off so it didn’t spoil the game any more for me. (Thinking back to Ramsdale’s time wasting at Selhurst Park earlier in the season I wanted to see how long the ball was actually ‘in play’ for the 45 mins of the second half.)

We had had a s*** journey from my son’s school in Sevenoaks. Got stuck on the M25 for half an hour after an accident at Jct 10 then stopped off at Winchester Services on the M3 to grab a Burger King, only to find they only had one burger available to order because they’d run out of produce. No milkshakes or deserts available and the burger they actually served us was meh! - plus it was £31 for two meal deals and 6 chicken nuggets!!! 😡

Then another accident on the M3 delayed us even further and I had a nightmare parking as the Just Park spot we had booked was taken and I couldn’t find any on street parking. Ended up missing the first ten minutes of the game and then we played s*** and went behind (to Southampton!) so was just thoroughly pissed off 😄

I saw a stat that the ball is in play for around 50 minutes of matches. Which makes a mockery of 90 mins and a timekeeper. But you also risk going into NFL territory if it's really 90 minutes. Probably three hour matches.

You would think that it shouldn't be that hard to enforce a minimum of 60 minutes "ball in play"
per game without it having too detrimental effect on the overall game time -

Might mess with the TV schedule a bit though (Reduce the amount of time the pundits have to go on about the current flavour of the month)
