Sentences too harsh!

Testing the ignore button.

Edit. Blimey that worked well!
I have tested it too. You are right, it does work well.

It’s a win, win, win for the ignored!

1) They will no longer receive personal insults and inane replies from those who ignore them.

2) They can still reply to any post they choose to. Thus being able to counter some of the more outrageous ideas that regularly appear here. Whoever posts it.

3) Amusingly, posts from those who have been ignored can still be read and I suspect they may well be, although doing so will always be denied. Frustratingly though for them, no matter how outraged they won’t be able to reply. Mustn’t lose face in an echo chamber!

Happy days!

I'm fine with tougher sentences, so when are they going to start jailing yobs, and thugs who carry knives.
When they get arrested and charged.

How to handle the carrying of knives must be an operational nightmare for police commanders with endless demands and limited resources. Just keeping their own people safe must be hard enough.

Targeted stop and search drives in specific areas, with all the backup prepared? Not just of the police resource but holding cells, Court time and prison spaces.

What are your ideas?

I would get a knock on my door quick enough by the thought police than being mugged or held at knife point or being assaulted.

Knife arches at tube stations were effective in East London.

Yep, neo/social liberalism is totally hypocritical. There is no real liberalism....It's anti civil liberties and anti freedom for diversity of thought.

During the colour revolutions in the middle east they hailed the Internet and forums for spreading freedom of speech....their intelligence agencies worked towards this aim ...for what they personally supported.

However, when they find that the Internet can also contain harsh criticisms of policies they have pushed the attitude started to change. Now the agencies work to suppress the very dissent they encouraged aboard. They essentially want a western style version of China's system. The lack of principle means they have no issues squaring that circle.

As Marx said, socialism is a stepping stone to communism and while I agree that with many socialists this isn't deliberate, when systems feel insecure and challenged that is their inevitable direction of travel. It's the same on the right with fascism.

Essentially, those that see authoritarianism as western failure are out of power and have been for over twenty years now.....Blair was the start and Starmer the continuation, just a less competent and charmless extension.

I think we all agree that sentences should be applied equally across society. This does not seem to be the case. And I thought judges were supposed to be politically neutral?

O’Sullivan’s First Law: All organizations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing.

Judges are products of the legal profession and hence the universities, which had been turning left since....I'd say the sixties, initially slowly but were totally captured by the 2000s.

I'd imagine that being a judge who isn't part of that socially liberal consensus is as difficult now as being a ring wing teacher.....which I can tell you involved keeping quiet on politics (which I actually had no problem with because I agree with you that the job requires neutrality)

will we also be jailing Hip Hop artists for writing violent lyrics ? what about ancient Holy texts ? filled with incitement to violence.....much of which seems to be being acted upon - if all the decapitations are anything to go by. On our streets.

Of course we cannot nail the authors of such books. But i can easily find twenty vendors within a two mile radius of Brixton. Do we jail them ?

What, apart from Christians silently praying in public streets you mean?

The right in all its various forms....well, ok not the centralist 'conservative' party.....are finding examples of two tier policing where non whites are policed differently.

The state deny it but that's a bare faced lie as two tiered policing was the inevitable logical consequence of the dreadful Macpherson report.

I see that the SNP have suspended one of their Scottish parliament members for merely saying that he didn't think Israel was committing genocide.

We all agree they should, but only some seem to think they aren’t.

If any case comes to court I believe Judges will decide and sentence entirely objectively, on the facts alone.

Whether a case comes to court is not a matter for the judiciary.

If you ignore someone do you still get responses to the bilge they pump out in response to others that haven’t (yet) taken such action ?
You won’t see anything from those you ignore. Others who don’t will though see their replies to you, which could prove embarrassing if your arguments are shown to be incorrect.
