Save your hate for Liverpool …

It’s only another opinion but it would not surprise me if the truth was Glasner , just didnt want Julio. And it suited his position on Guehi, to make that very clear to everyone involved, by saying to the player he would not play. We could have done with another central defender because with our fixture list they would get used.
My suspicion as well. Saying West Ham stole him from us is a face saving exercise for both player and Palace. I think he found out he would be a back up CH and didn't fancy it.

Unless we've f*cked it up and Marc is so p1ssed-off with how we handled it and not getting the move he wanted that his forms falls off a cliff. I know what it's like to work for a company that have shafted me... I definitely don't give 100%, maybe 55% at best...

Right. So you think that right before a world cup he's going to now throw a tantrum, with a manager who will kick out a player who doesn't do what he wants. For what? You think that behaviour will get him a move that he can't have until January at least? Get him into the world cup squad if he's not performing? And that the best deal from top clubs will come after such petulance?

I dunno what you do for a living pal but it's nothing like the game these guys are playing. Get a grip.

I think we all really need to let this go.

We have the potential of a great season ahead of us.

It's possible that Glasner and Parish might have had a little disagreement about the calibre of replacement for Guehi, maybe not.
A third choice, regularly injured loan is no one's idea of a satisfactory replacement, and I suspect there was more going on and we pulled the plug when it was clear that a proper replacement was not possible.

Igor was the victim of that, but Guehi will actually be better off as a result.

Time to move on.

What are you defending, the guehi saga made us look amateurish.

There was never much doubt Liverpool were trying to work Palace over, almost pulled it off as well.
I don’t blame Parish for that except in possibly one regard and that was being so public about his need to sell. Never the less considering Guehi even at £40 mill was an absolute steal for Liverpool, they wanted close to that for players he might replace. The fact was that was not enough for them, says they wanted to rub Palaces noses in it. Maybe Marc, should question how much he was actually wanted at Anfield, because their conduct suggests it didn’t matter if it didn’t happen.

I don’t hate Liverpool in the slightest but it would serve them right if Marc signs a pre contract for Real or Barca in January

Look, this is a stupid thread. Stop all this anti Liverpool stuff. It makes no odds. We all know that Ollie will be tempted away to manage Bayern and take Marc with him to play alongside his old mate Michael. That's the plan.

My only concerns with this scenario are

Did Liverpool leave it until the last minute? I suspect not as they have not been shy in signing players all window and they clearly had their work cut out dealing with the Mags playing hard ball.

We knew that Marc was in the last year of his contract and his value now plummets. Why were we shopping on the last day unless we were hoping that we could get a bargain?.) But hey why do we always shop on yne last day when the clubs pop those yellow discount stickers on what they want shot of.

Finally if Glasner did issue an ultimatum why did we agree a deal?

Finally why have we bought two players who look at best raw?.

Complete verbal dogshit
It isn’t complete dogshit because Parish did say we couldn’t let Guehi go for free. That obviously gave Liverpool an indication they could lowball Parish. Now we’re in a position of Guehi possibly, probably going for free, but after Parish ended up accepting Liverpool’s lowball offer.

Reason for the post was due to the hate being directed at Steve Parish which I felt was totally misdirected . I think he handle the situation as well as he could given the situation . Hate is probably too strong a word , blame would have been more appropriate , but it was to catch people’s attention and my attempt to shift the anti Steve narrative out there .

I personally feel that “ social media “ is anything but social media, and the topic of this post is not like what I normally do .

No , I don’t hate Liverpool and they do ( we have the second best )have the best club song .

I was resorting to the sort of sensationalisation the media do on a daily basis just to make people read the post which I felt was well reasoned .

The only team I truly passionately hate is Liverpool!
I don’t really care about Brighton or Millwall or even Charlton. I see them a rivals, that makes match day a little bit more spicy. No more no less.
Now Liverpool is a completely different story. Their own arrogance drives me mad. I honestly think that they believe they invented football, and have this divine right to be at the top, win everything and do whatever they want.
In the 80s and 90s everyone supported Liverpool, in a similar way everyone supported Man U in the 2000s, and we took some beatings. I remember the days after the 9-0 thumping and it was tortuous!
Then my true hatred kicked in when we were denied European football for the first time. How dare Palace get into Europe ahead of Liverpool. So the authorities changed their minds about Liverpools extended ban and let them back in, and denying us. I believe this set our club back decades as not long after that, the team broke up and we were back to the second tier.

The authorities changed the rules again when Liverpool failed to qualify for the champions league the year after they won it. So what happens, they change the rules so that the winners automatically qualify.
I don’t even want to get started about their fans, as this would read like war and peace. Let’s just say that I love nothing more than putting one on them and the semi final in 90 and the charity shield was a joyous occasion, along with the numerous times we have ruined their party!

While I was upset about being denied Europa , I do wonder if it was a blessing in disguise .

We have a much more realistic chance of wining the conferance and then go to Europa next season . So a greater possibility of two Europe seasons .

Gives the club / players and fans the chance to adjust to the rigors of the extra games and also gives the club a better to chance to recruit / prepare for Europa if we win the conferance .

We now have added depth to the squad and then two more windows to prepare and build depth . We have players who aren’t in Glasners plans , so more chance to recruit those who could be .

This whole debacle was nothing more than a Mexican standoff and it panned out exactly as so.

Trying to figure out who was "in the wrong" here is pointless.

the OP makes a good point very well, however if we had got someone like Diomande in in July how much would Liverpool had dropped their offer for Guehi to? Not lower than £30 mil I'd say, so maybe be better to risk losing a few mil so as not to undermine the integrity of the squad and alarm the manager. But I don't think Guehi's all that p*ssed off he's staying, there's plenty of upside from guaranteed regular playing time and the choice of club and level of salary he'll get next summer, and we might get a fair price for him in Jan with big clubs trying to get in there before the summer.

If Liverpool had let Gomez go then Guehi would be their player now.
That was what was meant to happen, so they scuppered the deal - not us.

That's the thing, there's so much hearsay about that "Guehi is fuming" or that he is "said to be releasing a statement concerning his disappointment" or that "Guehi is heartbroken and betrayed"

........who said? Besides some sports "journalists" and some people in Reddit?
It's not like this was a once in a lifetime opportunity and we stood in his way. He's going there either way, if not now then in three or eight months.

Save your hate for Liverpool

I think Steve nailed it . Please read everything before you hit reply .

Ok , palace , small fry , have two champion players who most people believe are happy to leave the club this window .

Eze and Geuhi . Palace make it obvious that for the right price they are willing to sanction their sale .

Eze for 68 and Geuhi for 40 ( only 1 year left and previous offers for 65-70 ). 40 ? Probably not unreasonable given the situation .

Given that Arsenal were happy to effectively meet Eze’s valuation , let’s assume Steve knows what he’s asking is close .

Palace make it pretty clear that they’re happy for Marc to leave on two conditions . Asking price met and Palace have time to get an adequate replacement .

Assume the same condition applies for Eze .

Glasner had also made it clear he wanted an early sale .

Every one knows that until a contract is signed , it can fall over . If you don’t know that you , well you should . We’ve seen that play out all the time including several times with palace .

So what do arsenal do . They come in with a realistic offer with plenty of time for palace to arrange a replacement . Palace accept the offer knowing now they have the money and time to get a suitable replacement . Leicester play hard ball , up their price , Palace can’t afford to over pay so they walk away from a player who really wanted to come , but it is a business and if you pay an inflated price this time then next time you have to negotiate a deal the club knows you’ll pay what they want .

Palace end up with Pino ( better player , cheaper price ) Eze and Arsenal get what they want and everyone’s happy .

Liverpool were you watching ….

Liverpool who spent over 400 mill now want to negotiate a deal to gain what is just over 1 % of their total spend while gaining one of the best CB’s in the EPL .

Liverpool know he wants to come , so what do Liverpool do ? Well Palace can’t force them to make an offer but they have clearly stated their two requirements

For all of those who say we should have anticipated this and should have acted earlier …
Maybe palace could go and buy a ready made replacement , but that’s not a player they need unless Marc leaves …..

If they do go out and buy a ready made replacement , Liverpool have palace over a barrel . They know Palace now have to sell . Does that make any sense at all from a business view point. Nup .

So what do Liverpool do ? they wait until the very last minute . Palace already replacements in mind , but as everyone ( including Liverpool ) knows , a deal can fall over at any time …

Two condition for the sale . Price and replacement . Price accepted but the replacement falls over , so Palace do what they’ve ALWAYS said they will do and pull the plug .

If Parish had gone ahead, he would have possibly lost his manager , alienated 80 % of the fans and also shown the big boys that you can push him around . Again he’s putting palace’s future first .

There are reasons for everything he does , you may not always agree with him ,

but ,

I always come away with the opinion he ends up making the right decision in most situations.

The villains in this are Liverpool .

They could have made a deal a month ago which would have made everyone happy , but they wanted to make sure they “ won “ the negotiation rather than having a win / win which would have had everyone ….. including the pundits , happy
100% agree
