Does anyone know why he didn't even make the bench on Saturday ? I am hoping illness / minor injury, rather than that we have decided he is crap or there has been a falling out.

In his pre-match press conference, Glasner said Esse and Matt Turner were both ill and wouldn't be travelling to Manchester with the team. That was why Remi Matthews was on the bench as reserve keeper rather than Matt Turner.

Hopefully we will get to see a bit more of Esse in the remaining games.

Prior to signing Esse, I had a conversation with a Millwall season-ticket holder who is an aficionado of football.
He described Esse as not ready for the PL but is a player for the future.

My Millwall contact said he was on a higher wavelength to the players around him there - he looks the part to me, his passing is great, has vision.

Isn’t that an Oxymoron…. A Millwall fan who is an aficionado of football?

However with that in depth and expert analysis, could he be Freedman’s replacement?

Esse clearly has a lot of potential, but he does seem quite excitable. I remember Glasner talking about Sarr developing his game with the coaching team before becoming a regular starter and I think the same could be the case with Romain. Hopefully we'll see some more of him before the end of the season as I was really excited when he signed.

His strike for the u-21s (and two assists) is worth a watch, good finish.

Good to see him showing some confidence and end product which is what Glasner has asked him for (admittedly at a higher level).

I have been watching Esse playing for the under 23 v Birmingham. He naturally stood out but relative to the opposition he was playing against. His performance did not suggest that he should be in the first team. He clearly has talent and to me he will only develop if he gets loaned out to a championship club playing at under 23 level is not bringing him forward.COYP
