Romaine Esse

We cannot afford to lose such an explosive talent from our squad which is too light already.

Really OG is too conservative and lacks ideas, he just couldn't hsndle him for some reason, if he is a pain so was Zaha.

We are not in danger with 27 points but looking more like a bottom half team each game to me.

😎
OG did not seem to have a problem with Olise or Eze. How should OG use Esse?

its a good move for him , may have come to us to early , needs to finish his education in lower lge then come back , then lets see if he has vastly improved , because even if he played ever game for us think he would still have failed

God I'd love to know what went on behind the scenes, bet that's some real juicy gossip!
Glasner has all the time in the world for some players making mistakes but this lad makes one and gets crucified every time.

I stand by my previous assumption and gossip mongering that he did a Wilf and boinked Oli's daughter.

Hope not do you know how old she is mmm

It’s disappointing how OG has all of the time in the world for some players , Devenney and Kamada spring to mind but Romain ….

He seems gun shy at the moment . Not wanting to take risks in case he makes a mistakes and get pulled off which is what has happened .

He did cost a goal and game early in his career with us , but from hat I can see , he’s learnt that lesson and is playing his “
Role “ in the team structure , but he’s now too scared to do something creative in case he makes a mistake as per Millwall , which sadly he did just before half time .

Instead of taking him off at half time against Millwall , OG should have had a 2 minute chat with him at half time , almost saying , you’re a talented player , I trust you , go out and play your role and enjoy yourself . You’re playing in the premier league .

I agree with you see_change about the way Esse's treatment has been reported but unfortunately it comes back to the old Business v Entertainment argument in football. The money in the PL is so important a manager is unlikely to accommodate a player to enjoy himself unless he's a superstar or he really has no option when the rules are a bit different.
Don't know if this works as an analogy, and it's too early to work it out properly, but a football manager is a bit like a theatrical director who will accept some improvisation from a big name actor but insist on everyone else following their lines to the letter or the whole thing falls apart.

Lol at the low key hate. A player who is a 50 cap international, has won the German cup and UEFA league.

Bit unkind to suggest Esse is a nonce given Oli’s daughter is 14!!
Unfortunately he hasn’t proven himself and the coaching staff see him everyday in training.
A loan spell is the right choice

I’m happy that Kamada was given the opportunities to show that he did have what it takes.

Devenney has shown more in his last couple
of games , but I remember a game earlier this season where he started left forward , and he looked totally lost . Way worse than Esse against Millwall. In that game Esse was getting into good positions and reading the game well , Just fluffed his lines .

No hate for Devenney or Kamada or Mateta , who was also slow to get going .

Given the small squad and the busy schedule , I would have thought other players might have been given more opportunity .

You don’t improve warming a bench

As I recall, the longer that 1st half went on, the worse Esse became ending it as the footballer equivalent of a headless chicken. I doubt he was in any state mentally to respond to anything Glasner might have said. Glasner did the kindest thing by replacing him for the 2nd half.

I do seem to remember OG saying similar things about the U21 players in the last conference game .

It is business , you do need to stick to the plan , but there is room for creativity in the last 1/3 .

If you’re benched for making a mistake ( happened to him twice ) , thats going to be ingrained into his thinking when he’s out there now . That’s not a good thing for him or the team .

He’s a young kid and I personally think OG has totally mismanaged him .

You don’t pay that amount of money for someone with no talent .

How do you conclude its off of 1 mistake,

I think a loan is the right outcome for all concerned for now. We’ve had a selection crisis and he has barely got any minutes. With Johnson joining, Sarr to come back and Uche having delivered more he’s unlikely to be given minutes.

Glasner is not infallible (as his recent admission about squad size shows), he could be wrong on Esse but he has generally been more right than wrong.

Esse has been at the club for a year now.

He had the best of starts with that tap in against Brentford on his debut, but since then he's found the going tough.

I don't think he's benched purely for making mistakes. He has an opportunity to impress OG in training every day. But a year on and he hasn't earned the managers trust. That's not good for him but for the team they can't miss what they haven't had. Every player makes mistakes, and coping with adversity is all part of the game. Players do receive psychological coaching as well.

I don't think he's been mismanaged in the least.

I agree. I don’t think we can say he’s been mismanaged as he clearly hasn’t done enough to show he merits a place in the team. Sometimes things just don’t work out and nobody is to blame, player or manager. As a young player stepping up from the Championship it was always going to be difficult for him to force his way in and even more so now he is probably 7th choice in the attacking positions behind Uche, Pino, Sarr, Deveney, Johnson, Nketiah and Kamada (if he’s not in CM). I think we’ve been spoilt by how Eze, Olise and Wharton transitioned from Championship level but in reality it is a big step up

I found these observations to be in insightful and perceptive.
