Romain Esse

He can’t possibly be in the squad for Millwall tonight. If he is that means the deal is nowhere near done. Millwall would not risk jeopardising a £14 Million fee if he were about to sign for a new club. Any injury could totally scupper that, especially when it is Dagenham & Redbridge they are playing (at Home) whom they should be too strong for even without their star player.
I think that's what I basically said.

Apologies, I did not mean it like that.

The main thrust of my post was to say surely he can’t possibly be in the Millwall squad for tonight?! Implying my suspicion as to how reliable that Sky report could be?! Not questioning at all what you have said but just the validity of Sky’s sources.

If he’s in the squad then Personally I don’t believe he will be used as Millwall just can’t risk him. The player will also not want to be risked either - he’s about to complete a huge move to a Premier League team and sign an extremely lucrative contract on vastly improved terms. It’s a no brainer for him not to play IF he is about to sign for us (or West Ham).

No problem. We're completely on the same page 👍

I have been in communication with a gentleman who has seen Romain Esse play quite a few times and is a good judge of a player. In his view, Esse is talented but is one for future, not ready for PL football just yet.
IF he signs his role to start with will presumably be as a sub. Hopefully to come on in games where we're four up with ten minutes left - we might not see much of him for a while.

Sadly, Christmas Day is in the past, and any letters to Santa asking to be there when Palace are four up with ten minutes to go will not work for this season.

Have to hope that Esse gets First Team game time before 2028. Please remind me about any 19 year old Academy players we have good enough for First Team appearances.

I don't know enough about the academy players to know but we've bought him for a reason and that hopefully is more than seeing him in three years time.

Hahaha this made me laugh out loud. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. From purely watching one game and the YouTube vids he has unteachable talent like Zaha, That said, he interviews well. With hard work and the way he glides with the ball we could have the next Eze.

We can only hope. If his tricks work he'll at least draw some defenders away from Eze.

the clever thing about going for Esse and hopefully Diouf is that they are bought as understudies to Eze and Mitchell respectively. You need competition for places without disapppointing the left out player too much - it's why the Mateta or Nketiah choice is such a problem. Two good players fighting for one place makes for a very good player, but as Esse and Diouf are both teenagers they won't expect to usurp established internationals but they will be champing at the bit to show what they can do and make it into the team. Mitchell needs competition and Eze needs a kick up the *rse - so I hope we get both, don't want to tempt fate but all things considered, including agents, the Esse signing is looking like a formality.
