Is somebody/ anybody saying that Rak-Sakyi offers less than Johnson? There's a pretty obvious answer to that.
Surely nobody can argue that. Johnson will never come good and deep down we all know that. £35m wasted. You only had to read the Spurs forums to see he was crap and no one rated him. How our DOF can look Parish in the eye is beyond me.
With JRS he’s actually had some good games for us. Was it Arsenal at home as a sub a few years ago? As for Johnson he’s been rubbish every game.

I get the same feeling as you but I'm holding out some hope.

Well of course you can. Different players suit different formations and styles of play. (Remember how good Benteke was in his first season for us.....)

He scored 18 goals for Spurs last season, 11 in the prem That would have been more than Sarr both last and this season

Well let’s see what you think half way through next season. It won’t happen. As regards Benteke he had a decent first season which partly justified the huge transfer fee Liverpool mugged us for and the big wages but soon reverted to type and was absolutely shocking the next few years. In fact he was so immobile he could have been arrested for loitering!

IMO its a pretty narrow minded way of looking at things.

Benteke was a monster at Villa, the move to Liverpool was a odd one, was never going to be the right fit, but his first season with us was immense.

The 'returning to type' you reference was more that we had 2 inverse wide men who didn't cross. Which was also why he struggled at Liverpool. He never was or would be mobile, but one of the best in the air.

Some players will struggle in systems that aren't set up for them.

If you look at the Forrest Johnson he was a chalk dust wide man, beating his man with pace and whipping balls in. Thats what make him a £50 player. Not playing the tight congested role Glasner asks.

If we want to get the best out of BJ and JSL we need to cross the ball.

Some would say that's all he's worth now.

Yep and Big Sam as well got Benteke banging in the goals again as well.

I see a few comments blaming our new DOF for BJ which is untrue almost all these players are off old lists Palace have put together under Freedman we tried getting BJ in the past (Palace way is dont get them first time will get them later down the road)

The Freedman list is from SP comments a few times he mentioned he had still spoke to him and had lits put together by him.

New DOF had not even been in the club long also people appear to think the DOF makes all the decisions they do not they are like the top guy who speak with scouts/data people and will then speak with the money people.

I understand fans of all clubs would love to see home grown talent make to elite status. However the statistics say otherwise and in fact confirm that it would be almost impossible to run an elite football club using a high proportion of academy players and be succesful. The most staggering statistics show that 97% of former category 1 academy players now 21-26 years old have never made an EPL appearance and that gives a good indication of just how difficult it is. Out of 1.5mil youth potential footballers only 18 (0.012%) will ever be offered and will sign a professional contact, this is according to research by the Junior Grass Routes Hub (FB published). The same report also reports that of all the young potential future players who sign in to an academy at the age of 9, only 1:200 will ever make it to pro-football at any level.

On the flip side, teams like Guardiola's and Villanova's Barça, Ten Hag's Ajax, and at one point Fergie's Man Utd have pulled it off to great effect.

We tend to have a strong academy at Palace and plenty of our graduates make it at a high level. There is potential to use that more to our advantage.

No he wasn't and you have used this argument repeatedly.

At Forest, predominantly in the championship years, Johnson played across the front line and rarely hugged the touchline.
His speed and movement helped him get behind the defence to score and create goals.

At Spurs he was used more as a winger and clearly struggled as he can't beat a man. His goal scoring wasn't bad, but mainly 6 yard finishes, but his overall contribution was poor.

This loss of form and confidence has continued at Palace although i would argue that the No10 position we want him to play is better suited to his limited abilities.

because it is correct

Most of his assists are from wide on the right. Lots of his goals are 'back post'.

Regardless, all I'm saying is that there are systems and positions that suit some more than others. Personally I dont think Glasners inside 10 is right for him.

clearly as he plays wide in a 433 his heat map with show him predominantly on one side of the pitch, my comment was referring to your statement that he likes hugging the touchline, which he definitely doesn't do and this has never suited his game.

He is clearly not, and has never been, a Eddie McGoldrick type of winger.

Personally i think he should be able to adapt to the No10 role at Palace, however, the evidence thus far shows he is not as good as were hoping he might be.

I'll leave it there - don't bother replying.

Is that an order, or, just an opinion? Asking for a friend.
