Reform

Another Tory (rat) deserts the sinking Tory ship.Tim Montgomerie has gone to Reform. It is daily becoming clear that Reform will be Her Majesties Official Opposition after the next election. One defects from the Tories almost weekly it was Andrea Jenkyns last week.

Musk is on the right side of politics and very wealthy.
I'll take his money all day if it means that Reform can grow as a party.

There has to be a rebalance. The liberals have had their own way for too long, and look how well that has worked out.

We know that politicians are puppets. If someone must pull their strings, then let it be someone who resists the tide of lunacy for a change.
I would prefer if it was us, the British voters, who pulled the strings!

Not some mega rich wanna be dictator from another country desperately trying to control political outcomes.

Also, the 100+supporters/workers/councillors & the odd MP or 2 that went over to the US to actively canvas for Kamala & the Democrats. Was that not 'interfering'?
Just a volunteer jaunt apparently. Like a bus man's holiday or scout trip. Nothing to see here according to the government and most of the press.
I guess Musk is far more super villain like than Starmer. Starmer's more Lestrade (if even that) than Sherlock.

Sure Bill Gates does it all the time and it's okay. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Hardly all the time!

The first and only reported political contribution was during the last US election, done privately and to try to ensure a defeat for Trump. You can easily understand why any responsible citizen might do that. Gates wasn’t motivated by greed was he? He is a philanthropist these days, devoted to helping people.

Compare that to Musk!

No.

It was responding to an invitation to try to avoid the disaster of a second Trump presidency. Something that will impact us negatively too.

Those who went weren’t sponsored by the Labour Party but paid their own expenses, whilst given accommodation by local people.

Those mobile goalposts are a real boon.

Musk’s ultimate game is difficult to decipher. I wonder if he knows it himself or is just doing it because he can. He might be politically naive but he cannot really be so stupid as to believe in Trump and those manipulating him.

Equally possible that he's manipulating Trump. It can't hurt a multi-billionaire's future plans to have the president on side.

That the American people had the right to make their choice is unarguable.

Nor though is the right of anyone concerned about what the consequences might be to respond to a request for assistance, so long as what they do is open, honest and legal.

This wasn’t underhand spreading of disinformation by people posing as US citizens.

Nor was It the spurious and divisive identity politics with which the Democrats tried to convince the electorate.

The way Musk has behaved in the last few years suggests to me he is no longer motivated just by money. He has already done his best to ruin Twitter. I sense an aroma of megalomania coming from him. Just as there does from Trump

You are right, because there weren’t any such politics. When the sole objective is to avoid another four years of Trump any tactics which help achieve that can be justified politically.

That they ultimately failed is for a completely different analysis.

Those goalposts are breaking speed records now.

Reform is not a political party it is a private company owned in the main by objector in chief Nigel Farage.

It is neither member centric nor democratic (who voted Farage in as leader?)

I have little doubt it will see huge gains in the devolved elections and in other elections over the next few years as people want change, but it's dead easy to promise the earth in opposition and in the run up to the election - look at the current government.

But as a party led by a small group whose answer to every woe is that it's all down to immigration they will struggle to govern in a credible way as they have no real experience or depth of knowledge right now.

Will they gain that? Maybe as I can see Kemi looking for a merger once she realises that her party remains split and snarky.

I believe that in the US defence budget is a few hundred billion for Musk's satellites. Imagine Trump hearing more about Space Force from Elon. Maybe he even showed him some models.
