Re-watching good Cinema & TV

i watched Tom Cruise's War of the World's yesterday. Really great effort, but obviously quite Americanised, and not set in Horsell Common.
The CGI and stooodio effects are blended really well. Really good filum.

Just a comment about 'older' films really. i like the way a few of the producers have made the effort to clean up the sound (and in some cases improve it), and also get rid of imperfections from the original cine film.
Colourisation works better in a lot of films, although obviously not all of them.

Just finished binge watching Lost again.

The best TV show of all time. Escapism at its finest.

I remember watching it the first time when you had to wait a week between episodes and months between seasons. That created antisipation of course but watching it in a shorter space of time makes you appreciate the glorious absurdity of it all and makes you see things that you had forgotten or didn't quite get with previous veiwings.

If you have never seen it then watch it on Disney or Netfilx. Indulge in the unapologetic insanity. It has something for everyone.

I have sub titles on now for all american stuff. Not cos I can't hear it, but because I find they purposely muffle the sound so I dont understand it. Also when they show a text that you can't see. Does my head in.

This is so true for me, but also stuff that’s not so hard to find. What I mean is if I find a film or series on one of the various platforms and they’re charging for it, I think sod ‘em and I buy the dvd cheap on eBay.
What's a DVD? Even an old fogie like me has gone beyond that now. 😀

🤣🤣

It all seems a bit of a pain now tbh, at my age having to get up off the sofa, plug the dvd player in, go to the cupboard, find the dvd I want after they’ve all fallen out on the floor, find the remote, open the slidey tray thing etc etc 😁

now that we are all comfortable with pay-per-view streaming, the prices have gone up. I prefer to watch 'the good the bad and the ugly' on my old dvd.....than getting ripped off for 4 quid every time.

ditto for me. I needed subtitles for 'The Penguin' cos of the mumbling and references to obscure people, things, & obscure places.

Final episode 10 of ‘The Day of The Jackal’ series came out on Thursday so I’ve just watched 8,9 and 10. Worth watching when you can or when it gets sold by Sky to other platforms. It’s had pretty good viewing figures for Sky.

For me it's like the Vikings show, really good for the first season and then....well, ever decreasing circles of filler.

I think they just really write one series originally. Then quickly write more if they're popular. Hence the ever more tenuous/ stinted/ ridiculous storylines as the series' remain popular enough to get another series. Meaning that the first series is always the best. I tend to avoid all series' due to this - plus it's too much commitment for me. And I can't binge watch them, I get irritated after maybe one - two episodes at most.

Yep, the series that keep up the quality are a rare bird....it's a bit like most bands.....only a few can maintain a quality over time. It's understandable when you think about it....but ever so occasionally it happens and those are the boxsets we love.

I have boxsets of nearly everything Terry Sullivan did.....and Graham Linehan.

I've decided to go the media server route next year....transfer all the physical media to drives on a home network and connect it to all the tvs.
