Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

Well i went to the 'font of all knowledge' - ChatGPT:

Should Crystal palace be allowwd to compete in the Europa league?

ChatGPT said:

Crystal Palace winning the FA Cup on May 17, 2025, officially earned them a spot in the 2025–26 Europa League group stage sportbible.com+3en.wikipedia.org+3en.wikipedia.org+3.

🏟️ Why UEFA is Hesitant

What’s Next?

UEFA has been sympathetic to Palace’s appeal, acknowledging the romance of an FA Cup winner playing in Europe ft.com+9sportbible.com+9talksport.com+9. They’ve asked for more details on Palace’s ownership structure ft.com+7thetimes.co.uk+7swissramble.substack.com+7. A final decision is expected later this month (June 2025).

What If They're Excluded?

Should They Be Allowed In?

Arguments in favor:

  • Palace earned their spot through on-field merit, winning the FA Cup.
  • UEFA has shown a willingness to work with them, suggesting Textor doesn’t hold “decisive influence” reddit.com+13sportbible.com+13swissramble.substack.com+13.
  • Removing them now would nullify a historic moment for the club and its fans.
Arguments against:

  • UEFA’s rule is clear: no single individual may influence multiple clubs in the same competition.
  • Allowing an exemption now could open loopholes and challenge rule integrity.

Bottom Line

🏆 From a fairness and romantic standpoint, Palace did everything required on the pitch and deserve to compete.
📜 But from a regulatory perspective, UEFA’s rules are explicit—multi-club influence is not allowed, deadlines were missed, and setting a precedent would be risky.

Likely Outcome

UEFA seems reluctant to exclude them, citing their sympathetic approach, but a final ruling is pending. If the sale of Textor’s stake (or legal challenge) happens quickly, Palace may well be allowed into the Europa League—but if UEFA takes a hard line, their spot could go to Forest.

Sooo that's obvious then!
Well thats cleared it all up then . :drunk:😳🤔

Exactly what I thought. A club that would have been almost transformed by European money too. A few hundred thousand is enough for a League of Ireland side. Not that I like them - I support Galway United in Ireland.
Where men are men and the sheep are nervous 🤣

You could be forgiven for thinking that the info supplied to UEFA to date has not been enough if they are requesting more
I read this piece in my paper today and although it doesn't give us much in the way of new information I felt strangely reassured by it.

This is what is causing so much comment. Nobody including journalists actually knows what the actual situation is . It could mean this, it could mean that, has been the story along ,this is right up the media,s street, they are having a field day putting a different slant on what is essentially the same story it’s been since day one. By the way I would read that as you do, but we are still left guessing, I only hope it’s only paperwork and UEFA hurry up and make a decision, it’s getting a bit drawn out.

Purely conjecture but wondered if this article was another rehash of what we already knew. That Parish and Textor were told a couple of weeks ago that they needed to provide some info and were, presumably, given a deadline. That's what's happening isn't it?

But your old mate, est1905 said on the on the 8th of June, Its debatable that we have broken any rules. Palace and their legal advisors say no. UEFA are not disagreeing either. They are currently scrutinizing their own rules to see if there is a solution. i think he is as completely inaccurate as i was with Glasner, Great Minds

To be fair, that was a week ago . And nobody knows how accurate any of the reporting is.

If that latest report is accurate then I’m struggling to see the positives in it ! But that’s just my interpretation

Has anybody forensically looked at what happened in France on the evening of 17th May?

Palace winning the cup meant that the other Europa League place would go to the team finishing sixth. At that stage there was a strong possibility that this club would be Chelsea.

I think it’s already been mentioned that both Chelsea and Strasbourg are owned by BlueCo, so the same situation could apply to them.

I suspect BlueCo would prefer Chelsea to be in the Europa League rather than Strasbourg. In this scenario, if Strasbourg had finished 5th, and Inter had won the Champions League instead of PSG, Strasbourg would have knocked Chelsea out of next year’s Europa League, according to the rules that have often been quoted in this thread.

Before kick off time, the 5th, 6th, and 7th places in Ligue 1 were

5. LOSC 57 pts GD +15
6. Strasbourg 57 pts GD + 13
7. Lyon 54 pts GD +13

Points from game 34 are not yet included.

With 25 minutes to go, the scores are

LOSC 1 Reims 1
Strasbourg 2 Le Havre 1
Lyon 1 Angers 0

Adding in the points from these games, this gives a potential final table of

5. Strasbourg 60 pts GD +14
6. LOSC 58 pts GD +13
7. Lyon 57 pts GD +14

At this point, Chelsea may well lose their Europa League spot to Strasbourg. Were BlueCo happy with this scenario? Chelsea could still be out if Strasbourg draw, so Strasbourg would have to lose to ensure that Chelsea kept their Europa League spot.

After this, the following goals are scored:

70 mins: Strasbourg 2 Le Havre 2
72 mins: Lyon 2 Angers 0
86 mins: LOSC 2 Reims 1
99 mins: Strasbourg 2 Le Havre 3

Strasbourg dropped to sixth after 70 minutes, but they would have been back in 5th if Reims had scored.

Eventually, Strasbourg finished 7th, but they could have easily finished 5th if they drew or lost.

I think the possibility that Strasbourg lost deliberately needs to be investigated.

I find it very interesting that although there are many goals, and extended highlights on you tube the 3 or 4, videos are now not available, it may be my location, but i doubt it. if anyone finds a video of the game could they please post it.

Interesting theory but I doubt CPFC would want to bring it up at this stage. As there seems to be no way for us to contact Uefa other than by letter, you could contact the FA and ask this to be passed on. However, since we ruined their dream final once again ie Villa v Man City, they are unlikely to do anything but laugh.

It riles me that Cup winners like Palace may well be denied entry to the very competition that replaced the European Cup Winners Cup. Surely Cup winners should take precedence over those teams that failed to achieve top places in their ie “losers” own national leagues. Unfortunately there is always a vested interest somewhere in the background and it remains to be seen whether the sudden outpouring of goodwill towards us (Brighton/Forest excepted) is enough to sway the powers that be.

do we have any updates Eagles ? Today we have an article in 'The Times' but its behind a money-wall.

No updates PV, this story is of Drogheda Utd being barred from the Conference League due to multi-club ownership. If you scroll back on this thread, it was reported on Saturday just gone.
