Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

I am not sure Tuesday's meeting will resolve the situation. UEFA has a Club Financial Control Body which apparently does a formal investigation: presumably that could take some time. Forest - and likely Brighton - could get involved as there is also an Appeals procedure. Forest would benefit the most and might push the case that their owner did go through the blind trust approach specifically to avoid this possibility. Brighton would certainly be under pressure from their fans to take action
This could drag on for some time and if not resolved before the draw they will rule against Palace. Of course, there is also the implication on our attractiveness as a club on transfer dealings

I’m not sure why Forest and Brighton would get the chance to appeal. We didn’t get Europe league through our league position, it is always the case the Cup Winners qualify and 8th place would not normally qualify. I am concerned and IF we lose out because of this, serious questions will have to be asked of not on,y Textor but why the board have allowed the ownership issues to drag on so long and until they are sorted we will never progress

Suspect this is rather like there being no law that a convicted felon could be POTUS - no one ever thought it was going to happen.

I think that if we are expelled it would be disastrous for our squad situation, Eze, Guehi and probably Mateta would all leave, and attracting a better class of replacement would extremely difficult, lets hope something is sorted out, the draw for the first phase is on June 17th. Two weeks 😳

I wouldn’t read too much into the sensationalist stories being peddled by the tabloids. As if the Governance Committee of CPFC would be blind to any regulatory implications relating to shared ownership. They’ll have compliance officers all over this. I hardly think Steve Parish wakes up one morning, lifts The Sun and thinks “oh crap”. Brighton fans however will need new duvets this morning.

We'd go to the Conference league but still a huge blow

There is some more posts on this on the Textor ownership thread with good information

My clutching at straws is that this has been foreseen and they have set up Textor's level of control (voting rights) so it falls below the level set by UEFA. That feels more likely than PSG losing out to Reims
No we wouldn't go into the Conference because Textor also has a stake in Brondby.

This is the most comprehensive contradictory gobbledegook I've ever read.

5.01 parts a and b say we're out but part c says we're in. I guess that means they just make it up. I'm this sure must have come up before.
We're not alone in this its also affecting Drogheda in the Conference League.

This must have come up many times before but I can't find anything.

there's no mention on the beeb, just the s*** house mail, sun and gb news. we may have to change something but it would be insane to expel us - but I promise you this though as a man of honour - if we do get thrown out and Brighton get into Europe instead of us I will be commitiing suicide. I will go to the glass cabinet on the wall in the billiard room, take out my 17th century gold handled Spanish pistol, make my way to the veranda after I have downed a port and smoked a a fine havana cigar and do the decent thing.

See how many Brighton fans you can shoot ? 🙂

It’s a great potential story for the tabloid press, as nothing else is going on at the moment.

However, Parish is an incredibly shrewd man, and I am quietly confident this will be resolved in our favour.

Earlier on in the season when Textor was looking to dispose of his shares & the Everton ownership possibility came up, I did read somewhere that Harris & Blitzer offered him a share price similar to his original investment, so if it transpired that in order to save this situation getting out of hand (Palace excluded from Europe) there is at least potentially a quick way out, albeit I could imagine that there would have to be some more negotiation for both sides to be able to walk away having saved face.

On a more serious note I am hopeful that UEFA are just doing their due diligence and rightly so.

I have no idea what the rules are but as I understand it whilst Textor is the biggest shareholder he does not have a controlling interest.

My guess is that UEFA may demand that there is no contact between Lyon* and Palace whilst both are in the competition e.g. no transfers. There maybe other restrictions at boardroom level but I cannot see them banning us.

Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Man City and other have faced similar issues and have got around them.

It's why I hate multi club ownership.

*What is the latest on Lyon's debt situation? Last I heard they were facing enforced relegation from the French FA unless the debt situation was resolved? Is that still a threat ?

My feelings are that UEFA will want to resolve this in our favour. If they were to throw Palace out of the Europa League then almost certainly the club would attempt to sue them and if there were any inkling that their decision was not watertight, they could face a huge bill. If, as others have said, there is precedent of other clubs getting around this issue, then UEFA will definitely have to find a workaround. Having said all that, just when things are looking good, someone always ruins it for us!

This is the back page headline story in today's Mail, but no mention in The Times. It's tricky to see how credible this issue really is.

i think part c is critical here as Textor doesn't have a majority holding and importantly voting rights so his influence is limited. He only has 25% voting rights.

Many clubs fail sections A and B and are still playing in Europe so hopefully this will count in our favour.

Is there any possibility UEFA have no decision to make and have no qualms at all? The newspapers have made this up out of fresh air and there's nothing even a conversation being had? Because at this time of year we often read how we've been speaking to Lionel Messi and then get angry when we don't sign him, but it turns out nobody was speaking to Lionel Messi.

Why not go on a killing spree in Brighton? Death by cop but before then such fun.

One solution could be for Textor to instead place either club in a blind trust for a year, thereby pausing any involvement or “influence” and allowing both Palace and Lyon to compete in the Europa League as planned.

Evangelos Marinakis has already placed Nottingham Forest in a blind trust in order to comply with UEFA rules, because he is the controlling shareholder of both Forest and Greek champions Olympiacos, who will both be in Europe next season.
