Palace potentially denied entry to Europa League?

I think saying 'we'd just beaten Doncaster, or 12th in the league, or just played Millwall, why would anyone think it means we'd qualify for Europe and sort out the shares issue' is missing the point entirely.

There was clearly a desire to try and win the FA Cup, for many obvious reasons, one of them being the European qualification.

If, as an organisation, you have a stated goal (such as european qualification), then you perform due diligence on what you need in order to be successful. This is basic project management at any organisation. No one who wants to keep their job goes at it half-arsed with the caveat 'it probably won't happen'.

This appears to be what happened though. Or some boardroom nonsense that hasn't been revealed.

Either way, poor show.
So come on then - what would you have done and when ?

Surely, the only way to satisfy the UEFA requirements was to get Textor to put his shares into a blind trust.

Why would Textor do this when there was firstly a low chance of Palace qualifying for the same tournament as Lyon and secondly why would he do it when he is wanting supposedly to sell those shares. There is also the fact that Parish cannot force him to do something with his shares that he doesn’t want to do.

To be honest, the big mistake in all this is allowing him and his dodgy dealings anywhere near Palace in the first place however we needed the money at the time and maybe Parish’s hands were tied at the time.

Personally, I’ve never thought Textor was a good fit with our club.
The sooner he fucks off the better for all concerned. Thanks for the money John but we don't need or like erratic and that's you all over

The way the rule is constructed is somewhat confusing.

From what I can gather the deadline for entering shares into a Blind Trust is 1st March and the transaction needs to be completed by the end of April.

It was at the end of April that it was reported that Maranakis had placed his shares in a Blind Trust.
This is correct but he has already removed them from the blind trust. He also ran on the pitch to remonstrate with Nuno when, not the owner!

I know - all this makes the UEFA rule look more and more ridiculous.

And within the terms of the Blind Trust / UEFA rule he was quite within his rights to do so !!

Listening to Talk Sport earlier this morning. Two interesting points of view, supporting Palace’s stance and Forest’s position.

Both agreed they would love to see Palace play in Europe - BUT, unless Parish can put forward a compelling case for our inclusion - then it appears our dream could be over.

Interestingly, the deadline for putting shares into a blind trust was July 1st in 2024, but this season moved to 1st March 2025! Just our luck!!

Like all of you, I’ve been waiting years to see our club play in Europe - I just prey

That’s all they are - points of view.

No more or less than what we are speculating on here.

If it was a cut and dried case of breaking the rules then we would already be excluded.

I’m aware of that deadline date change, but it won’t stop some on here thinking Palace could have circumvented that although so far all I’ve seen is blame apportioning with no viable solutions.

I could well be wrong but I still think ultimately we’ll be ok

That's not how a blind trust works, trustees appointed are quite free to trade investments.
In answer to the question “ can I sell my shares if placed in a Blind Trust “ this was what I found ;

“ No, if your shares are held within a blind trust, you generally cannot sell them directly yourself. In a blind trust, the beneficiary (you) loses direct control over investment decisions, and the trustee manages the assets. The trustee makes all decisions, including buying and selling, without consulting you or any other information about the company or trust's activities. “

It's not blind otherwise, the appointed trustees operate completely independent

I really struggle with the "we could not have seen this coming argument". At the end of last season we were looking like world beaters. Going into the summer break, I bet that most Palace people thought we had serious top 8 chances and that a European place was a real possibility at the end of this season.

Agreed, we had a terrible start but it was during last summer that the club should have been looking at European ramifications. Certainly, way before we were beating Stockport and Doncaster.

I don't know if blind trusts etc are the answer or if Textor can/could have/should have sold his shares. However, those in authority, ie the directors, have to take responsibility for what seems an apparent lack of business foresight. For all the great achievements of CPFC 2010, this has happened on their watch.

I am not blaming any individual. I think that this is still the best time ever to be a Palace fan. Hopefully, we will get the outcome that we all desire and lessons will be learnt.
Anyone who thought we were going to carry on that form though were on cloud cuckoo land. I’m sure the powers that be at the club knew like most that it was a moment in time, a perfect storm as they say. As I’ve said many times before, we were playing jaded teams who had long domestic and European seasons, we had a new manager bounce, two great signings, Eze and Olise back from injury, everything clicked for that last few games. Yes we were impressive the way we put these teams away, but the teams we beat were either running on empty, uninterested or on the beach.
I know with some fans you’re as good as your last few games and suddenly some had us down as qualifying for the champions league on the back of a few good wins, but like I said, cloud cuckoo land.
Back in the winter of this season NO-ONE could of seen us getting a European place

So what can we do to appease UEFA, and convince them we are, what we are, a single club, not directly part of a multi club set up? is it all in Textors hands?

Palace's argument is centred around a number of things ;

Palace do not share any employees, players, etc etc - in other words on a day to day basis they are not collaborating with any of Textors other clubs. Now we have had dealings with them - eg Plange's loan to Molenbeek, Jake O'Brien same and then permanent transfer to Lyon. I imagine that UEFA are examining those deals as part of their investigation. So ultimately not part of a multi club set up.

Textor does not have control of the day to day running of the club. Yes, he is the majority shareholder but only has the same voting rights as Harris, Blitzer and Parish - with Parish having the final say in the decision making process. Again, I would expect UEFA to be examining Palace's constitutional documents that will demonstrate that this is indeed the case.

It's in Textors hands to the extent that if UEFA arrive at a compromise solution that involves him, then yes, it's down to him. So far it's been reported that he's offered to put his shares into a Blind Trust - rejected by UEFA as it's past their ( ludicrous ) deadline, to sell his shares / dilute his holdings or step down as a Director.

Although he can be seen to be the root of the problem, he does appear to want to do what he can to ensure Palace can take their rightful place.

All guesswork on my part, but I'm hoping UEFA are giving Palace every chance to find a positive outcome.

Fingers crossed !

Of course he does - Palace playing in Europe would only benefit the value of his shareholding and make it possibly a more interesting prospect for a potential purchaser - which is what he has been after for a long time.

More trouble for Textor

A club owned by John Textor, the Crystal Palace co-owner whose multi-club ownership threatens to cost the FA Cup winners a place in Europe next season, is the subject of a complaint to Fifa by Burnley over an unpaid transfer fee.

Hopefully a good solution to our specific problem will be found
However, football has created an unnecessary mess for itself allowing multi club owners
Moving forwards uefa needs to clarify its position. For instance, we still have Blitzer owning Bronby. Not good for us in any way.
Short term I hope we sneak in. Beyond that, shut the door on all multi owners and ALL their clubs.
